When it comes to celebrity engagements, we often take bets on which couples will make it down the aisle and which won’t. The following ten celebrities have had really long engagements (in celebrity standards) regardless of if they finally made it down the aisle, ended in divorced, or are still waiting for the right time to say “I do!”

10. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Legnth of Engagement: About a year and a half

Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes after only a couple of months of dating. However, it took the very public couple nearly a year and a half to finally make it down the aisle. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. After almost six years of marriage, Holmes filed for divorce back in 2012.

9. Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux

Length of Engagement: Almost 2 years

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are engaged, but they do not seem like they are in any hurry to make their relationship legally binding. Theroux lives in New York City while Aniston stays in California and these two are almost never photographed together. Who knows if or when these two will actually tie the knot.

8. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Length of Engagement: 2 years

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie insisted that they wouldn’t marry until the nation’s laws allowed all couples to marry. However, in 2012, the couple announced that they were engaged. There is no date set for the nuptials, but their six children are said to be happy about the engagement and Pitt reportedly designed the ring himself.

7. Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy – who have one son together, Bingham – aren’t heading down the aisle anytime soon. A couple of months ago, these two were allegedly on the brink of a breakup. However, they now seem to be working past their issues – they were recently spotted cuddling on a beach.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard – who are a notoriously private couple – were married in 2009 in an intimate ceremony in Brindisi, Italy. At the time, the couple had one child together, Ramona, who was born in 2006. They welcomed a second daughter, Gloria, in 2012.

Length of Engagement: 3.5 years

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson have set two different wedding dates, but had to cancel both because she kept getting pregnant. The couple has allegedly set a wedding date for sometime in 2014. “I think it’s about time! Knowing that I have the wedding coming up is an incentive to stay on Weight Watchers, count my points, and stay in the gym. I mean, when you see my dress, you’ll know,” the singer blushed.

4. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

Length of Engagement: About 4 years

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard decided to delay getting married until California legalized same-sex marriage. So when the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was overturned last June, these two got married a few months later. The couple has one child together, daughter Lincoln.

3. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green

Length of Engagement: About 4 years

These two didn’t have the most straightforward engagement. They first became engaged in 2006, but broke off the engagement in 2009. However, the wedding was on again in mid-June 2010 and they married several days later. During the second proposal, Fox allegedly lost the ring moments after Green proposed.

Amy Adams and Darren Le Gallo have been together for 11 years and engaged for five. However, these two love birds are not in a rush to head down the aisle. “I’m not pregnant. I’m not getting married anytime soon. I know he’s completely capable and lovely, and beautiful, and offers something I could never hope to offer just in the nature of his being,” the Golden Globe-winning actress gushed.

It took a long time for these two to tie the knot and there were some naysayers who didn’t think it would ever happen. Isla Fisher converted to Judaism for Sacha Baron Cohen and three years after her conversion they finally tied the knot in 2010, in Paris, France. The couple currently has two children together.
