10 Things You Didn’t Know About Katie Holmes

10. 40 Days
Katie was offered the lead role in 40 Days and 40 Nights, but had to turn it down because of scheduling conflicts.

Katie encountered controversy when she went topless in The Gift. The Toledo Blade’s Russ Lemmon’s called the scene “gratuitous” and argued that the four years she spent cultivating a wholesome image was potentially ruined because of it.

While in high school, she was asked to audition for Dawson’s Creek in L.A., but it conflicted with her performing in her school musical Damn Yankees, so she declined the offer. Lucky for her, producers let her audition via videotape. She read for the part of Joey and her mother read Dawson’s lines. She made quite the impression and won the part.
2. Smart Cookie
She scored 1310 out of 1600 on her SATs and was accepted at Columbia University. She enrolled there for a summer session, but put further education on the back burner so that she could pursue acting.
1. First Love
Her first love was Joshua Jackson. The two dated while filming the first season of Dawson’s Creek. “It was something so incredible and indescribable that I will treasure it always,” she told Rolling Stone. The two have remained friends. When she left Tom Cruise, Joshua was one of the people she called.
