Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams are one of those elusive couple you’d never know where dating unless you followed them on social media. The Pretty Little Liars actress and Suits actor have been together for nearly a decade, but have managed to keep their relationship pretty private. They recently got married in a beautiful California ceremony, but because of their shyness of the spotlight — not much is known about them! Here are 11 things you probably didn’t know about Patrick J. Adams and Troian Bellisario’s Relationship:
11. How They Met
The two actors met on the set of the play in 2009. “We did a play together in L.A. called Equivocation. She was cast for the part of my romantic interest. We met and that was it. That was a little more than three years ago,” said Adams in a 2013 interview. Their relationship hasn’t been easy as they’ve both held main castings in popular shows; Troian was a lead cast member in Pretty Little Liars, while Patrick co-stars in Suits.

10. Grand Gesture
Maintaining a relationship in Hollywood can be hard, especially when both individuals are filming in separate cities on separate schedules. This is what happened to Troian and Patrick in the beginning of their relationship. Luckily, Patrick wasn’t about to let her get away that easily! He made a grand gesture to win her back which involved him auditioning for a small role on her show. “We had broken up at that point, and I decided to audition for the guest role which I normally wouldn’t have and got it,” he said. He played the role of Hardy in season 1’s episode “Reality Bites Me.”

9. Tough Schedules
For almost the entirety of their relationship, Troian has filmed in Los Angeles and Patrick in Toronto for eight months out of the year. When asked what their typical date night looks like, she responded with: “We live in different cities so it’s Skyping.” In a separate interview with Us Weekly she also mentioned it involves a lot of Air Miles! “A lot of Air Miles…You make it work! Might be in different cities — with a different cast or a different storyline — but we are both experiencing a very unique opportunity in both of our careers at similar times,” she said.

8. Getting Jealous
Both Troian and Patrick have love interests on their respective shows which in some relationships could cause a little jealousy! “I think we joke about it a lot. I think it’s great ’cause, when you’re dating an actor, hopefully, an intelligent actor, he understands that it’s a job and you understand for them that it’s a job. I think it’s definitely not the most pleasurable thing that I get to do when I watch his romantic scenes. But the good thing is that I actually, I do love Meghan Markle, she’s such a sweetheart. So I kind of like, you know, if you’re gonna play in love with somebody, what better person can you ask for than her,” she said in an interview at Marriott Hotel.

7. Grown Together in the Spotlight
What’s sweet about their relationship is that it pre-dates any of the fame they each have now which also makes them a little more accepting of each other’s careers. “I think we’re both very fortunate in that we both fell in love before we got our shows. So the coolest thing about being in a relationship with him is that he’s got to see for me what roller-coaster it’s like. I think what happens to a lot of people is they kind of get along to a certain point in their career and then they date somebody else at a certain point in their career and your egos clash…I’m such a fan of his show too that we’ve both kind of been able to be there for each other and respect it in a way that’s not competitive,” she said.

6. Their Double Dating Partners
Every couple has their go-to couple they like to hang out with as a foursome and double date; in Troian and Patrick’s case it’s another celebrity, Scandal‘s Katie Lowes and her husband Adam Shapiro. “We are really good friends,” said Troian. “We just threw a dinner party at our house last night and Katie was there so we were raging Apples to Apples until the morning and then I had to go to work. And we run into each other at parties, which is the best!”

5. Engaged & Married
Troian and Patrick got engaged in January 2014 and then got married in December 2016 after eight years of dating. He popped the question when they moved into their first home together. The beautiful wedding consisted of a rustic wooded outdoor ceremony in Santa Barbara, California. The event took place over three days with about 200 of their closest friends and family including their co-stars from both Suits and Pretty Little Liars. In lieu of gifts they encouraged guests to donate to the David Suzuki Foundation and SickKids Hospital.

4. Meaning Behind Fort-Themed Wedding
Many people probably assumed the #FortDay theme behind their wedding was simply going off the concept of having their guests “glamp” near the event, but it has a little more meaning than that! “Eight years ago we were two friends who shared very little time together. We were tired and overworked and just wanted to have some peace and quiet. So he invited me over to his apartment where he had built us a pillow fort. He stapled sheets and Christmas lights to the ceiling. We shut the door to the world outside. We didn’t answer our phones. And over pancakes and movies. Long late night conversations and sleep, we got to know each other a little better. That was the first ‘FortDay,'” she said in a sweet Instagram post after their wedding.

3. Working Together
Patrick and Troian have both appeared on each others shows in guest roles. Patrick first appeared on Pretty Little Liars back in 2010, and then Troian appeared on Suits in 2015 as Claire, a love interest from Mike’s past. “It was just so much fun,” said Troian in an interview with TV Fanatic. “When we met it was on a play so we started out working together so whenever we get to return to that, it’s such a wonderful and creative place for me to grow because I feel like there’s such permission whenever I’m working with him. He’s got a really good barometer and he’ll let me know definitely when something is or isn’t working.”

2. Newly Weds
Troian and Patrick made their first red carpet appearance as a married couple at the Pre-SAG Awards party in January 2017. “It feels like you have this, like, perma-best friend now. It’s like, ‘Ah, now I don’t have to worry about anything,’ and that feels really good. It’s just like you’ve got your partner in crime,” said Adams in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

1. Protecting Their Relationship
It’s pretty obvious these two stars want to keep their relationship private and there’s good reason for it! “We didn’t know how much of it to protect, you know. Cause it’s like, I’m on Twitter, we’re both on Instagram, we’re gonna be taking pictures of each other and so people have this idea about our relationship,” she said. Troian admits it’s still hard to keep things private. “Like, when we went on vacation together, we apparently got engaged three times. And it was weird because I have people from my family back home calling me…so that’s kind of been the hardest thing for us.”
