12 Former Celebrity Couples Who Reunited On-Screen

Published on November 4, 2015.

Some of the best chemistry happens on-screen, but how awkward would it be to create romantic sparks with your ex! In the complicated and serial world of Hollywood relationships, it’s not uncommon to wind up in a steamy love scene with a past love. This list explores the on-screen moments that make you say, “awkward!” Here are 12 celebrities that worked together after breaking up.

12. Adam Brody & Rachel Bilson — The O.C.

On-screen romance became real-life romance for these two teen-drama stars. Teens and tabloid fans enjoyed watching the romance between Adam Body and Rachel Bilson unfold, but after dating for three years, the couple split in 2006 to their devotees’ dismay. Despite their breakup, they had to continue to work together on the set of The O.C. as Seth and Summer.

The fellow co-stars didn’t have the cleanest of breakups. While at Comic-Con to promote their film, the exes decided to grab a bite to eat, which reportedly ended in a screaming match. 7. Justin Timberlake & Cameron Diaz — Bad Teacher

This couple had all the fixings of what makes Hollywood romances so interesting to us laymen. They’re sexy A-listers with almost a 10 year age gap between them! The couple were tabloid favorites for four years before splitting in 2007, but fortunately for fans, they reunited in Bad Teacher in 2011.

6. Ben Affleck & Gwyneth Paltrow — Bounce

These two had a hot and steamy tabloid-filled relationship from 1997 to 2000, but didn’t have the super-messy breakup one would expect from Hollywood A-listers. Gwyneth explained that the end of their three year relationship came about because Ben wasn’t quite ready for a relationship. The ex-couple appeared together as a couple in the not-so-critically acclaimed film Bounce in 2000. Ben opened up to The Actor’s Studio and said that Gwyneth had strongly encouraged him to take the role as it was a different type of role from anything he had done before. This seemed a lot less catty than some other comments like those made to GMA; Ben said that Gwyneth’s perfect man would be someone like her father and she said his ideal woman would be “any sort of stripper at Scores…that serves cold beer in a bikini.”

The couple still had to work together on the successful series, but the emotional saga proved too much Chad, and he left the show before its 7th season in 2009.

This Big Bang couple took their on-screen chemistry into real life and dated for two years. Despite breaking up in 2009, the actors remained friends and have continued working together, playing husband and wife on the series. Kaley was briefly married to professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting, but it has been reported that Kaley kept calling Ryan “Johnny” to the point that it became a problem. The saga continues as an insider told In Touch magazine that “She [Kaley] still loves him [Galcki]. So there is definitely a chance that they’ll get back together.” Only time will tell if these exes remain exes forever.

Unfortunately, the show was not a commercial success and FOX cancelled it after 12 episodes.

1. Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart — Twilight

Kristen Stewart shocked team Edward fans when she cheated on her real-life boyfriend, Robert Pattinson with married film director and father-of-two, Rupert Sanders. The two had to work together on the Twilight promotional tour, and Perez Hilton reported that “it is eating him [Robert] up that he has no choice but to see her again because of work. His humiliation is total.” Poor Edward!
