Married Couples Who Starred On CW Network Shows
Published on January 25, 2018. Updated October 15, 2020The old adage “it’s a small world” couldn’t apply any more than it does to the entertainment industry “family” of The CW Network. Previously known as the WB, The CW is the home of many hit drama series including One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Arrow and Gossip Girl, just to name a select few off of their long and impressive roster. While fans of one of those shows often turn out to be fans of others, the shows happen to have some deeper connections than just their network and the fans. A surprising amount of celebrity couples who are married, or at least were, have been on CW shows and what is more surprising, some of them weren’t even on the same show. Dating co-stars are common when it comes to many shows and films but these couples jumped right in and tied the knot, and also happened to, at one point, both be connected to at least one CW show.
9. Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford
Following his turn as Clark Kent/Superman in 2006’s Superman Returns, Brandon Routh returned to the world of superheroes in the hit CW show Arrow. He then went on to appear as Ray Palmer/Atom in The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. After his starring role in Legends of Tomorrow, season three brought a friendly face when his wife Courtney Ford was cast as Nora for seasons 3-5. Of course, Ford was no stranger to The CW having appeared in The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural before. Routh and Ford began dating in 2003 before their engagement in August, 2006. The pair married on November 24, 2007 and welcomed their son in 2012.

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist was previously married to her Glee costar Blake Jenner, and he went on to appear alongside her in two episodes of the hit CW series Supergirl. After their split, Benoist went on to marry none other than Chris Wood who is known for his CW network roles as Malachai Parker on The Vampire Diaries, Jake Riley in Containment and Mon-El in Supergirl. The duo welcomed a son in September 2020.

Perhaps one of Hollywood’s most favorite but very reclusive couples is Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton. Fans are well aware of course that Morgan starred in the hit series Supernatural as John Winchester and couldn’t be happier that he is married to One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer). Following her divorce from Greg Prange, the son of One Tree Hill‘s executive producer Ian Prange, in 2009, Burton quietly began dating Morgan who had split from actress Mary-Louise Parker in 2008. In March 2010, the adorable pair welcomed their son Augustus “Gus” and have been diligent about keeping him out of the spotlight. The two welcomed their second child, a daughter named George in early 2019, and were later married that year in October.

Unfortunately, Arrow star Stephen Amell is a taken man and as it turns out the woman who got the brooding hero is no stranger to hit CW series herself. Cassandra Jean is most recognizable from her stint on America’s Next Top Model in 2005 where she had one of the most memorable “make-over” episode breakdowns in ANTM history and holds the title of being the first contestant to walk off the show. After America’s Next Top Model, however, she made an appearance on yet another major CW show. Jean appeared in season 6 of One Tree Hill in two episodes as Missy, “the other Brooke,” who is cast as Brooke Davis in Lucas’s film adaptation of his novel. It’s not clear how Amell and Jean met, but the two were married on Christmas Day 2012 while on vacation in the Caribbean and had a second stateside wedding in New Orleans on May 26, 2013, before welcoming their daughter Maverick “Mavi” Alexandra Jean Amell in October 2013.

Probably the most well-known CW marriage was between these two One Tree Hill stars, Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush. The two starred on the show as on-again, off-again on-screen love interests Lucas Scott and Brooke Davis before the relationship transferred off-screen as well. The two became engaged as season 1 came to an end in May 2004 and eventually tied the knot on April 16, 2005. Unfortunately for the famous pair, this CW matchup didn’t go so well, as they separated only five months into the marriage as rumors swirled of Murray’s infidelity, reportedly with his House of Wax co-star Paris Hilton. Luckily for fans of the show, the two were able to remain professional and worked together on the show without a problem, even while portraying a happy couple.

Supernatural is one of the CW’s darker shows, pulling away from the teen dramas it is famous for but still producing a hit show led by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as the Winchester brothers. It may be a darker show, but love still found its way on set when Padalecki met Genevieve Cortese who had a recurring role as the demon Ruby for twelve episodes in the show’s fourth season in 2008. Padalecki proposed to Cortese in October 2009, but they didn’t confirm the engagement until 2010 before getting married on February 27, 2010. They welcomed their first son, Thomas Colton, in March 2012, their second son, Austin Shepherd, in December 2013, and their daughter Odette Elliott in March 2017.

There was a lot of love on the set of the CW’s The Vampire Diaries, and while Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev didn’t work out, Persia White and Joseph Morgan sure did. The pair met on set while filming the third season of the show where both had recurring roles with Morgan playing Klaus, an original vampire, and White playing Abby Bennett Wilson, the mother of Bonnie Bennett. While White only appeared in 6 episodes and Morgan had a long-term role as well as starring in the CW’s spin-off The Originals, it was enough to spark the romance. The two announced their engagement in May 2014 after three years of dating and were married on July 5, 2014 in Jamaica.

These two have a couple of degrees of CW connections surrounding their short-lived marriage. Paul Wesley is, of course, another Vampire Diaries star as Stefan Salvatore and while you might recognize Torrey DeVitto as Dr. Meredith Fell from season 3 of the show, she is also well known as a guest star on another hit CW show. DeVitto played the memorable role of “crazy” Nanny Carrie in season 5 of One Tree Hill. What’s most interesting is that the two actually met in 2007 while filming the non-CW related film Killer Movie and married in a small ceremony in April of 2011. The two were married while DeVitto appeared on The Vampire Diaries but filed for divorce in July 2013 after only two years of marriage.

Here’s a couple that seemingly flew under the radar for both appearing in large roles for two huge CW shows. Jensen Ackles is, of course, Dean Winchester the brother to Jared Padalecki’s Sam on Supernatural and as it turns out he is married to none other than Danneel Harris. Harris became a recurring star on One Tree Hill as Rachel Gattina in season three of the show and came back in season 7 as the wife of Dan Scott, and in 2017 it was announced she would be joining her husband’s hit show in a recurring role! The two CW alum had known each other for seven years and dated for three before finally becoming engaged in November 2009. They married less than a year later on May 15, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. Together they share one daughter, Justice Jay (JJ) Ackles who was born on May 30, 2013, and twins Zeppelin Bram and Arrow Rhodes who were born on December 2, 2016.
