Couple’s counseling is incredibly popular these days. Many people enjoy having a third party there to offer advice, listen to their problems and help with mediating any conflicts that may arise. Celebrities are no different. Like non-famous couples, they sometimes need help navigating the intricacies of relationships. We decided to find out which celebrity couples have tried couple’s counseling and see if it actually helped to save the relationship. We have 7 couples on our list and the results aren’t too surprising. While some of these couple managed to patch things up, many of them didn’t and ended up breaking up.

7. Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes

Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have reportedly been getting couple’s counseling. The couple is rumored to be expecting their first child together in October and sources say that they want their relationship to be in tip-top shape once the baby arrives. This means working out their issues! One of the issues they are trying to resolve is whether or not they should tie the knot. Right now Gosling wants to, but Mendes isn’t so sure.

6. Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon

Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon got together when they were really young and they made it work for about a decade. Before finally calling it quits on their marriage, these two had tried couple’s counseling. Witherspoon didn’t look at getting therapy as a bad thing. “In what capacity is working on yourself or your marriage a bad thing?” she told Oprah Winfrey. “What marriage isn’t a journey? Nobody’s perfect. We all have our own set of problems.”

5. Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie

Hilary Duff and her estranged husband Mike Comrie reportedly spent 18 months in couple’s therapy before they finally decided to call it quits. Rumor has that she didn’t feel that he was putting enough into the relationship and that he wasn’t doing any of the stuff that they worked on in counseling. It looks like things started to go wrong when Comrie was injured in 2012 and was forced to retire from hockey for good. Him being home a lot and not doing anything really strained the relationship.
