7 Solid Celebrity Couples Who Will Never Get Married

Published on February 11, 2015. Updated April 4, 2017

There are so many celebrities who love getting married – even if it’s not for the right reasons. This is probably why the divorce rate is so high in Hollywood – people are more interested in the idea of marriage than actually finding someone who they can settle down with for life. We’ve found that there are several celebrity couples in Hollywood who have absolutely no interest in getting married. They don’t think that the ceremony and the piece of paper will change a thing. We think they might be on to something! Here are 7 solid celebrity couples who will never get married!

7. Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger

Many of us want Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger to get married – they just seem so perfect together! That being said, the chances of these two actually walking down the aisle are pretty slim. Despite having dated for nearly a decade, neither of them seem particularly interested in the idea of marriage. Kruger has said that she doesn’t intend to get married while Jackson has said that they aren’t married because they aren’t “religious.”

“I can tell you why we’re not married: We’re not religious. I don’t feel any more or less committed to Diane for not having stood in front of a priest and had a giant party,” the former “Dawson’s Creek” star told Glamour magazine. “We’re both children of divorce, so it’s hard for me to take marriage at face value as the thing that shows you’ve grown up and are committed to another person. But it may change at some point. We may get married.”

6. Oprah and Stedman Graham

Oprah and Stedman Graham have been together since 1986. Even though they got engaged back in 1992, they never actually went through with it and they probably never will. According to Oprah, she just isn’t that traditional. According to her, if they had gotten married, it probably wouldn’t have lasted.

“It’s not because I never had time – if I wanted to get married, I could’ve made the time,” she told host Lorraine Kelly. I’m not a traditional woman and I haven’t had a traditional life, and I think that had Stedman and I gotten married, we certainly wouldn’t have stayed married,” she said. “If you were to ask him, he would say the same thing…He’s a pretty traditional man. I’ve taught him to be non-traditional. But the very idea of what it means to be a wife and the responsibility and sacrifice that carries – I wouldn’t have held that very well.”

5. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for over 30 years. Before they got together, she had been married twice and both marriages ended in divorce. Since then, she hasn’t really felt the need to walk down the aisle again. “I don’t know, we just didn’t get married,” she told Jonathon Ross. “The relationship itself is a big deal. Marriage is a ceremony, which is nice, and it’s a promise, which is nice, but you make that promise every day…Marriage does not necessarily mean that you’re going to stay together and it really has to do with your will to be together, your devotion and your ability to listen to each other.”

Even though they aren’t married, they seem more committed to each other and more stable than many other couples who have chosen to take the marriage route. This is one of the few relationships in Hollywood that has stood the test of time.

4. Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson

Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson are proof that celebrity couples can have committed relationships without ever having to get married. These two have been together since 2001 and they have four children together. When it comes to their relationship, neither of them has said much.

Before Rudolph had children, her life was devoted to “Saturday Night Live.” “Before I had children, everything about my life was devoted to Saturday Night Live,” she told Fresh Air. “You’re there sometimes on Tuesday nights until 6 or 8 in the morning. You’re exhausted, you’re loopy…and you’ve had three shows in a row, and you haven’t done any of your laundry, and you have no food in the fridge. It’s really difficult to be there for anyone else in your life when you’re doing the show because of the hours it demands.” It was while she was on “SNL” that she met Paul Thomas Anderson.

3. Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt aren’t especially conventional. They have been dating for almost 20 years; however, they have never felt the need to get married. In an interview with Elle magazine, the “Mad Men” star explained why he and his longtime girlfriend never made it official. “The flip answer is, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The better version of that is, that any relationship is a day-in-day-out process,” he said. “Having a piece of paper serves to remind you of your commitment, but we do a pretty good job of reminding each other.”

Hamm has said similar things about marriage to other publications in the past. “Jen is the love of my life, and we’ve already been together four times longer than my parents were married,” Hamm told Parade in 2010. “I don’t have the marriage chip, and neither of us have the greatest examples of marriages in our families.”

2. Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova

Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova have been together forever – since 2001, to be specific. Every so often, rumors have floated around about her getting impatient with him for not popping the question; however, there doesn’t seem to be any truth to any of them. Iglesias has said that he has no plans to marry his longtime love. “I’ve never really thought marriage would make a difference. Maybe it’s because I come from divorced parents, but I don’t think you love someone more because of a piece of paper. And nowadays, it’s not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you’re a good parent, period,” he told Parade magazine in 2012.

Kournikova has also said that she has no plans to marry Iglesias. “I’m in a happy relationship – that’s all that matters,” she said. “I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely.”

1. Shakira and Gerard Piqué

Shakira and Gerard Pique have been together since 2010 and it looks like they have no plans to marry. They currently live together with their two children and, as far as she is concerned, this is as real as it gets. “We already have what’s essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and a baby. I think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and marriage is not going to change them. But if I’m ever going to get married, he’s the one,” she said.

Shakira doesn’t seem especially conventional. Before she was with Piqué, she was in a long-term relationship with Antonio de la Rúa. They were together for 11 years and never bothered to get married. They were reportedly engaged. When they broke up, he tried to sue her for a staggering $100 million. We’re sure Piqué is a much better man than that.
