The Emmys don’t always get it right. In fact, some major talent has been overlooked over the years and there really isn’t a good explanation as to why. Today, we’re looking at actors, actresses and ensemble casts who were snubbed by Academy of Television of Arts & Sciences, which left critics and fans outraged. Here are the top 7:
7. Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls was released to widespread critical acclaim with critics singling out Lauren Graham’s performance as single mom Lorelai Gilmore. The show only received one Emmy nomination for Outstanding Makeup for a Series for the episode “The Festival of Living Art,” which it won; however, Graham’s performance was consistently overlooked.

6. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Throughout it’s 11 seasons, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has only received three Emmy nominations all for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or a Variety Program. Considering that the show’s received widespread critical acclaim, with The New Yorker calling it “the best sitcom on television,” the Emmy snubs in the lead categories is surprising. After all, the ensemble cast is brilliant and the writing is consistently clever.

5. The Walking Dead
Not only does The Walking Dead have the highest total viewership of any series in cable history, it has also been well reviewed by critics; however, in spite of this, it only receives Emmy nominations in the technical categories, like makeup, editing, visual effects and stunt coordination. So far, the show’s only won two Emmys, both for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series and this year it is up for that same award yet again. It’s unfortunate that the cast hasn’t been recognized at all for their talents.

4. The Wire
Critics now view The Wire as one of the greatest television dramas of all time; however, during its five season run, it struggled to maintain ratings and failed to win any of the major television awards. In total, it only received two Emmy nominations, both for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, but none for the cast or for the show itself.

3. Sons of Anarchy
Sons of Anarchy garnered considerable critical acclaim during its seven season run but, in spite of this, it never was able to win an Emmy. In total, it was nominated for five Emmy awards for music, makeup and stunt coordinating, but none in any of the lead categories. Many critics singled out Katey Sagal’s performance as Gemma and even the Golden Globes gave her the Best Actress in a TV Drama award, but not the Emmys.

2. Buffy the Vampire
Buffy the Vampire Slayer did win two Emmy Awards, one for Outstanding Makeup for a Series and the other for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series and it was nominated for eight other Emmy Awards. Surprisingly, despite the show being critically acclaimed, it was snubbed in all of the lead Emmy categories, which led many television critics to feel that the show had been robbed.

1. Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars ran for three seasons and, while it wasn’t a ratings darling, it was a critical success and earned a loyal cult following. The show featured Kristen Bell as the eponymous character, a high school student who moonlights as a private investigator. Critics praised her performance with several feeling that she was deserving of an Emmy nomination, which she never received.
