Dancing with the Stars has produced many couples over the past 24 seasons, and while some of them didn’t last, there have been many who’ve stayed together for the long haul! Among these few long lasting couples are Russian-born, Australian dancer Sasha Farber and British dance choreographer, Emma Slater. These two have been together for nearly six years and fans even got to watch them get engaged during a live episode of Dancing with the Stars! Although they haven’t set a date, a wedding is in their near future, so here’s a look at 8 things you didn’t know about Emma Slater and Sasha Farber’s relationship!

8. How Did They Meet?

Sasha and Emma met the same way many of the other Dancing with the Stars pros met — while working on the show Burn the Floor. They started dating in 2011, two years after they first met and one year after they were both cast on the popular dance competition show. Farber and Slater have now known each other for eight years and been together for nearly six years (not including their brief break up). According to Farber, he knew Slater was the one only “three or four months” after they first met.

7. The Proposal

Sasha Farber proposed to longtime girlfriend Emma Slater on October 4th, 2016 during an episode of Dancing with the Stars! The whole thing was totally emotional and touching as Tom Bergeron handed the show over to Farber and he said, “Babe, I’ve wanted to do this for such a long time. I love you so, so much.” He got down on one knee and, of course, she said yes! The big screen behind them quickly flashed, “She said yes!” and the whole audience erupted with joy. Farber said he came up with the idea of proposing on live television because it was the perfect way to share the moment with their families who couldn’t be there. “Her parents are away in England, my parents are in Australia, our families are all around the world and they’ll get to see this,” he said.

6. The Ring

It might seem like a risky move to propose on stage in front of a live audience, but Farber was pretty confident his now fiancé would say yes, especially considering she had already picked the ring! They had both previously stated in an interview that marriage was definitely in the cards for them, it was just a matter of finding the right time. While Slater was totally surprised by the way Farber proposed, she couldn’t have been too surprised about the bling to go with it. The ring is a 4-carat oval, vintage-inspired, rose-colored sapphire that Slater picked out herself. “She had gone shopping and picked it. I spoke to her sister and she told me and I went and got it,” said Farber after the proposal.

5. Their Break Up

Sasha and Emma were on the road to their happily ever after, but in 2014, they briefly broke up after dating for three years. In an interview with Glamour, Slater opened up about their split and said: “I don’t think we’re supposed to finish together. I think there are other people that might make us both individually happy, but I’m always going to be his best friend. It has just happened in the way we have gone from a beautiful three-year relationship, which I love and cherish, to best friends,” she said. “We both understood that it wasn’t going the way that it should forever, so we were mature about it and made that decision, but we amicably agreed — we’re family. He’s the only family I have in America, and we still love each other.” The two ended up getting back together in December 2015.

4. Lived Together While Broken Up

Emma and Sasha had one of the most amicable splits we’ve ever heard of so it’s not surprising these two were able to work things out. During their break up Slater revealed the two would continue to live together and even went on tour together for DWTS! “For now, living together is just totally fine. It’s not going to be forever, but I was glad that he decided to go on tour with me. I only ever want the best for him, but I will be there because we’re going to be there for each other,” she said.

3. New Home

In August 2016, Emma Slater and Sasha Farber bought their first home after five years of dating! The couples home has been described as a “fairytale style” home with a very cozy, cottage-like appeal. They fell in love with it almost immediately. “I saw it and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh! We have to get it,'” said Slater. “I didn’t even go inside.” The million dollar hideaway has become a popular hangout for all their DWTS castmates and a creative space for dancing! “Right here is where all the choreography comes together. We already choreographed all our routines in this room,” said Farber.

2. Wedding Date

Although the dancing duo are ecstatic to be engaged, they are in no rush to get walk down the aisle. They have both expressed interest in having a long engagement. They were planning on getting hitched in the Fall 2017, but in March, the couple told reporters their wedding plans were being put on the back burner because they are both competing on season 24 of the dance reality show. In addition to their hectic lives, Slater said this summer is already pretty booked up with fellow DWTS pros Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s wedding, as well as judge Julianne Hough’s. “Selfishly, I think I kind of want to stand out a little bit. So now I’m thinking maybe next year,” said Slater.

1. Wedding Details

The wedding date might still be undecided, but there are a few other details Slater already has nailed down! Fans can expect to see a lot of fellow DWTS castmates at their big event, especially in Slater’s wedding party! Her wedding party will include co-stars Lindsay Arnold, Brittany Cherry, Witney Carson, Jenna Johnson and Hayley Erbert. Slater also revealed she wants DWTS host, Tom Bergeron, to officiate their nuptials! “[Tom] will do the best job. Tom Bergeron is going to be the best person to marry us.” she said. And the biggest question is — will the two perform a dance? “We haven’t even talked about that [yet]. You know, it’s funny, I don’t think that we will [perform]. And if we do, it’s not going to be like [serious] — it’s going to be cheesy,” she revealed.
