David Foster and Yolanda Hadid seemed like the picture perfect couple during their time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The former Housewife and model joined the reality series back in 2012 and stuck with it until the end of season 6 when the two surprisingly announced their pending divorce. During her time on the show viewers caught a glimpse of her marriage to David and it seemed pretty perfect from the outside as the two hosted lavish dinner parties together and watched Yolanda dote on David’s every need, but when she was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, her whole life changed, including her marriage. Even though the two are no longer together, they made a pretty awesome couple and their relationship was extremely sweet. Here’s a look back at 9 things you probably didn’t know about Yolanda Hadid and David Foster’s relationship!
9. How Did They Meet?
Surprisingly, Yolanda and David were introduced through her ex-husband, Mohamed Hadid! During season 3 of RHOBH, David told the story of how the two met and said it happened when he was single and about to move in with his friend, Mohamed, who is also Yolanda’s ex-husband and father of her three children, Gigi, Bella, and Anwar. While in Mohamed’s house he noticed a beautiful blonde woman in a lot of the photos and asked Mohamed if he could introduce him. Of course he did and, according to David, it was love at first sight. It might seem odd that Yolanda and David were introduced through her ex, but these two have been able to maintain a great relationship as friends and co-parents after their divorce.

8. They Took Things Slow
The famous musician and producer started dating the former model a few weeks after they were first introduced, but they decided to take things slow. In the beginning of their relationship, Yolanda jokingly made David agree to commitment contracts of various lengths starting out with 30 days, then 60 days, three months, six months, one year, until finally they’d been together so long they “couldn’t picture their life without one another,” said Yolanda. In total, they dated for four years before they got engaged, which is surprisingly long in Beverly Hills!

7. Engagement
Their engagement was surprising because David had originally told Yolanda that he had no interest in getting married again or having more children after he’d previously been divorced three times and had already raised five children and step children! Not to mention this would be Yolanda’s second marriage and, at the time, she was in the midst of raising three children. Of course, being with Yolanda changed his mind somewhere along the way as they got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2010 during a dinner party at the home of Mohamed Hadid! Fellow Housewife, Lisa Vanderpump was present at the dinner party when it happened.

6. Star Studded Wedding
Since David works so closely with celebrities and has been part of the music industry so long, he’s made a lot of celebrity friends! The two showed off just how well connected they were during their time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and his wedding to Yolanda was a celeb-filled extravaganza. They had Dr. Phil McGraw deliver advice to the couple during their ceremony, and Andrea Bocelli sang “The Prayer” which is one of David’s best known songs from the 1998 film Quest for Camelot. Some of their other prominent guests were Michael Buble, Natalie Cole, Donna Summer, Peter Cetera, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Kenny G, the Canadian Tenors, and Neil Sedaka, who all performed at the ceremony. They also invited Barbra Streisand, Oprah Winfrey and Muhummad Ali.

5. Yolanda’s Wedding Gift to David
Yolanda and David’s relationship was different from the norm in so many ways, so it’s not surprising her wedding gift to him was a little unconventional. She decided to appeal to his musical interest by making a music video for him starring herself! The video takes place on a plane with her was dressed as a flight attendant, singing the song “I Love You.” Only Yolanda could pull this off! We’re assuming she picked the plane because David once told Haute Living if he didn’t have a career in music he’d have been a pilot, so Yolanda took his two biggest passions and combined them into one gift!

4. Love Letters
David Foster and Yolanda had the cutest relationship, even up until when they announced they were going to divorce. In the midst of her struggle with Lyme Disease, Foster told People magazine he would write her love letters in order to keep her spirits up and remind her how much he cared about her. “My wife loves a love note more than she loves a piece of jewelry. It is actually harder to do a love note than a piece of jewelry because I got to, like, sit down and really think about what I’m writing,” he said.

3. Lucky Number 11
Their lucky number was 11 which is why they decided to get married on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11). At the wedding ceremony, they had 11-year-old Jackie Evancho perform the song, “Pie Jesu,” and cute their wedding cake at exactly 11:11 p.m.

2. Demise of Their Marriage
When Yolanda and David announced they would be getting a divorce in December 2015, many people speculated it had to do with the fact that Yolanda had been struggling with Lyme disease for the majority of their marriage. Her illness had caused her entire life to change as she went from being a loving an doting wife to a patient in their own home. Unsurprisingly, this had a serious effect on her marriage to David which even Yolanda herself admitted during an interview with Andy Cohen. “Well, chronic long-term illness is extremely challenging. Not only for the person sick, but also for the caregiver. It for sure changed the dynamic of the relationship,” she said. During an episode of RHOBH in season 6, there was a point when David didn’t realize he was still being filmed, but his mic picked up a conversation with a friend who asked if he was feeling better, to which David replied, “A little, yeah. It’s been a stretch.” His friend asked if he wanted his life to “get back to the way it was when you first got together,” and David said, “How’s that going to happen?”

1. Blindsided by Divorce
No one was more surprised by their divorce than Yolanda herself. She claimed she felt blindsided by the whole thing. The 53-year-old reality star told Andy Cohen she remembers the exact day she found out and admitted she had signed a prenup before they tied the knot. “I know exactly the day — November 15,” two weeks later they went public with the news. “It was a conversation, yeah,” but also said prior to the conversation with David, she didn’t realize their relationship had hit the end of the road. “Yeah, I didn’t think it was the end of the road. I would have hoped to wait until I got 100 percent well. Unfortunately, it was not strong enough to withstand the circumstances that came our way,” she said.
