Bachelor: 9 Things You Didn’t Know About Jason Mesnick And Molly Malaney’s Relationship

Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney are one of the few couples who met on The Bachelor and actually stayed together! Malaney was one 29 women competing for real estate broker Mesnick’s final rose on season 13. In a surprising twist of events, she became his runner-up. In the season finale, Mesnick got engaged to Melissa Rycroft. But by the time the After The Final Rose episode rolled around, he broke things off with Rycroft and asked for another chance with Malaney. She agreed, and they’ve been together ever since! In celebration of their relationship, let’s take a look at 9 things you probably didn’t know about them!

9. After the Final Rose Ceremony

This scenario was so shocking, some might think the whole thing was staged, but Molly actually had no idea that Jason Mesnick was going to dump final rose winner Melissa Rycroft and end up professing his love to her. “Molly kept looking at me to wonder if this is real. She thought — she really couldn’t assimilate what was going on, and that speaks to the fact that she had no idea when she walked on that stage what was going to happen,” said Chris Harrison, host of The Bachelor, while on Good Morning America. Rycroft, on the other hand, had known the relationship was over but had no idea Jason was going to reunite with Malaney.

8. Took Things Slow

Unlike other relationships that come from The Bachelor, Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney decided to take things really slow. While Molly was thrilled that Jason decided to pick her in the end, she didn’t exactly run right back into his arms. In an interview with The Hollywood Gossip back in 2009, Molly said: “It wasn’t right away. We definitely had to have some serious discussions after all that. I needed to understand what happened with him and Melissa. I would say it was a couple weeks after we got past everything and got to a good place.” They also carried out a long distance relationship for about 10 months where they would only see each other every other weekend.

7. Televised Wedding Ceremony

Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney tied the knot in a televised ceremony on February 2010 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The newlyweds had a little bit of bad luck during the outdoor ceremony when it started pouring rain during the exchange of vows! On the plus side, it did make for some amazing pictures! They also broke tradition by having Malaney’s uncle officiate their ceremony instead of Chris Harrison, who’s been a popular choice for each and every televised Bachelor wedding in the past. The special aired a week after the wedding took place. The two-hour special raked in about nine million viewers.

6. Weren’t In Love Until After the Show

Unlike many other Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants of the past, Molly has no problem admitting that she and Jason did not fall in love on the show because there wasn’t enough time to establish that kind of relationship. “For me, was I really in love with Jason after those seven weeks of filming? No. And he would say the exact same thing. It’s difficult to fall in love with someone in a six-week period of time when you don’t even get to see them every single day…They didn’t show any of this, but I was really in a funk the morning Jason had to pick. I wanted to be engaged once in my life and I want it to be forever, and I didn’t know him well enough to be comfortable with it. But I did know that I wanted to keep pursuing the relationship with him,” she said to Seattle Pi.

5. Built A Home Together

After renting for a home together for nearly 5 years and surviving a long distance relationship, the Bachelor couple decided to put some real roots down and build a home together. They built a five bedroom, three bathroom house in Kirkland, WA. In an interview with Seattle Curbed in 2017, Jason said Molly is already ready to build a new house! “We completed the build and moved in about a year and a half ago. We love it, although — Molly’s words, not mine — ‘we learned so much about what we want and don’t want and I am already ready to build another home.’ Pretty sure she doesn’t have realistic expectations, but as the saying goes: ‘happy wife, happy life,'” he joked.

4. Two Children Together

Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney share one biological child together, a baby girl named Riley Anne Mesnick. She was born on March 14, 2013, in Seattle, Washington. They are also parents to Jason’s son Tyler from a previous marriage. Jason told People that he might have been the reason Molly went into labour. A friend had texted him the night before and told him that if he massaged Molly’s feet in the area between her ankle and the Achilles, she’d go into labor. “I did it last night for about three minutes and Molly woke up me up at about three this morning, after she’d been up for an hour and a half, so maybe it does work?” he joked.

3. Neil Lane Club

Neil Lane has become famous for providing all the engagement rings on The Bachelor and Bachelorette. The only Bachelor couple who met on the show and didn’t get a Neil Lane ring is Molly and Jason, and this is because Jason didn’t pick Molly until after the show finished airing. To make it up to her, on their fifth wedding anniversary, Jason surprised Molly with her own Neil Lane ring that was a 2.5 carat oval-cut stone with a double halo of 160 diamonds. “Never in a million years did I think I would be surprised with a new Neil Lane ring! The past five years have been the most amazing years of my life because of Jason. Our relationship started all because of the Bachelor franchise and Neil has been such a meaningful person within the franchise, so I am so honored to have a piece of that relationship. I can’t stop staring at my finger! This is the most amazing gift I’ve ever received!” Molly said to People.

2. Typical Romantic Evening

In an interview back in 2009, Molly Malaney was asked what a typical romantic evening would look like for her and Jason. Of course, this was a long time ago, so their answers might be different now, but this is what she said: “We’re not very romantic people. You think, you’re on ‘The Bachelor’ and you go on these really romantic extravagant dates. But we like to just hang out, cook dinner together, watch a movie and get a glass of wine. What was an interesting night for us actually was last night. When I got home from work — we didn’t have Tyler last night, so it was just the two of us — we looked at each other and we were like, ‘Let’s go bowling!’ So the two of us got in the car and we just went bowling and had the best time ever.”

1. Opposites Attract

They say opposites attract, and according to Molly and Jason — this is true! “We are complete opposites. Oh my God. Two totally separate people. But it works. We disagree about any little thing. What to eat, how to rearrange the living room. But at the end of the day we love going to bed together and waking up next to each other and just being with each other. So our personalities definitely complement themselves. But he is so carefree and easygoing, doesn’t let a thing bother him. Everything just slides off. And he is such a glass-half-full kind of person. He always sees the positive side of everything. Whereas I am very square and safe and play by the rules, I’m very organized, and very consistent, so year — we’re very different. But we pull each other in the right direction. He eases me up a little bit and I kind of wrangle him in,” she said during a Q&A with Seattle Pi.
