It’s official: the 16th star of The Bachelorette has been announced as Clare Crawley! Many Bachelor nation fans are likely quite familiar with Clare. She first appeared on the Bachelor franchise in 2014 as the runner-up on Juan Pablo’s season and went on to Bachelor In Paradise twice and Bachelor Winter Games. Crawley has yet to find her happily-ever-after, but hopefully, this is her chance as the star of The Bachelorette. Follow along as we roundup some things you might not know about Clare Crawley:

12. She’s from California

Clare was born and raised in Northern California and definitely embraces the California healthy lifestyle. She lives in Sacramento and decided to stay there even after her growing popularity from The Bachelor. Often Bachelor contestants move to LA to pursue opportunity following their stint on the show, but Clare remained true to her roots and stayed in her hometown.

11. She’s a hairstylist and loves her job

Despite all the success and popularity that’s come from being on the Bachelor franchise, Clare still works as a hairstylist. She shared on an Instagram post in 2019 that she’s obsessed with her career because she loves “connecting with people and being able to make a difference in their day, even if just for the few hours they sat in [her] chair!”

10. She loves dogs

Claire loves dogs and often shares photos of her two dogs on Instagram. She has a Maltese mix named Elbie and a golden retriever named Honey. She shared a photo of the dogs to her Instagram in July which she captioned as “two little toasters.”

9. She’s interested in wellness

Clare has a love for all things wellness including yoga, healthy eating, and positive energy. She shared a photo to her Instagram of two smudge sticks bound together with twine. They are thought to ward off negative energy and cleanse a space. “Protecting the vibe always,” she captioned the photo.

8. She loves being outdoors

Claire enjoys any sort of activity that takes place outdoors including hiking and rock climbing. “There is not a single thing that makes me feel more alive+happy than when I am immersed in nature!” she captioned a photo in September 2019 that showed her standing on top of a peak. “Today I felt so connected and was soaking up every moment of it, when I thought, ‘I wish my dad could see how beautiful this is! He would love it!’ (He was a wildlife biologist) …then I heard his voice say as clear as day ‘I’m right here with you’ Took my breath away.”

7. She’s the oldest Bachelorette in the show’s history

One factor that makes Clare standout as a Bachelorette is her age. She’s the oldest Bachelorette in the show’s history at the age of 38 and turning 39 on March 20th. Clare’s role as the oldest Bachelorette comes in stark contrast with the past season which starred Hannah Brown, the franchise’s youngest Bachelorette at 24-years old.

6. She thinks her age is her asset

Clare doesn’t think age is a concern, however, and actually thinks its an asset as the Bachelorette. Clare said on Good Morning America, “A lot of people put it out there as this negative thing, but for me, it just is more years under my belt, more learning and knowing what I want, what I don’t want and what I won’t settle for.” Clare then turned the question around and wondered if the men would be “ready for me, for my age.” She added, “I’m proud of my age, but I just feel younger and I feel like that to me is what’s important.”

4. She infamously stood up to Juan Pablo

One of Clare’s most iconic scenes while on The Bachelor was when she stood up to Juan Pablo at the final rose ceremony. “I lost respect for you,” she asserted to Juan Pablo. “I thought I knew what kind of man you were. What you just made me go through, I would never want my children having a father like you.” The quote has gone down as one of The Bachelor‘s most memorable of all time!

3. She got engaged during Winter Games

Clare almost had her happily-ever-after when she got engaged through Bachelor Winter Games, but the two ultimately decided to part ways. During the show, Clare was involved in a love triangle between Germany’s Christian Rauch and Canada’s Benoit Beausejour-Savard. After she returned home alone, Crawley and Beausejour-Savard rekindled their connection which led to him proposing two months later during The Bachelor Winter Games: World Tells All! episode. The pair split two months later in April 2018.

2. Family is everything to her

Family is super important to Clare and she made that known during her very first appearance on The Bachelor. She’s the youngest of a family of six girls and was incredibly close to her father, who died of brain cancer. “When my dad passed away, I feel like it just shattered my world, because I was his baby girl,” she explained. “One of the things my dad did before he passed away [was] he made a DVD for my future husband to watch. I have not seen it. Nobody has seen it, but I’m saving it for the right man to watch it.” During her first Bachelor debut in 2014 Crawley shared, “I am looking for a man that is just like my dad: strong, loving, gentle, compassionate and just a real genuine, kind man.”

1. She’s opened up about having a tough 2019

2019 hasn’t been an easy year for Clare, and she’s opened up about it on her Instagram. “2020 energy,” she captioned a photo of her in the ocean in January 2020. “Edit: What needs to be said, Is that this ‘energy’ was hard earned for me this past year. And this photo is to remind MYSELF how hard I’ve worked and fought for my peace and happiness. And the truth is that I probably wouldn’t have posted it in the past. But guess what… 2019 was awful tough. I don’t show it often, but there were so many days where I wanted to just crumble. But my CHOSEN family, and 2 sisters fought right alongside me when I was struggling. (Ya I said it) And I am forever forever grateful!! They held me up when the weight of my mom’s diagnosis crushed my soul. We fight together. So ya, here’s my 2020 energy, and who cares if I gained weight, earned a few more wrinkles and have a goofy looking chipped front tooth! I worked hard for this happiness. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.”
