(NEW YORK) — Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor may be off the market.  A source tells People magazine that George Clooney popped the question to his girlfriend, British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, and she said yes.

The source reveals, “George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren’t really trying to hide this, it doesn’t seem. I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever.”

The source adds that the engagement took place “not that long ago,” and the couple doesn’t seem to have any wedding plans at the moment.

Engagement rumors started last Thursday when the pair was spotted at the popular Malibu restaurant Nobu with Clooney’s longtime friends Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber. A different source tells the magazine that Alamuddin had a conspicuous ring on her left ring finger.

Two other eyewitnesses claim to have spotted the couple at a Los Angeles restaurant last Wednesday, reportedly celebrating their engagement with friends. One of the sources tells People Alamuddin was sporting a “huge ring.”

Clooney, 52, and Alamuddin, 36, were first photographed together in London back in October.

When asked to comment on the engagement rumor, a Clooney rep told People, “I don’t comment on my client’s personal life.”

Clooney was previously linked to actresses Renée Zellweger and Kelley Preston, as well as former WWE star Stacy Keibler. He was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.

Clooney is currently filming the sci-fi thriller Tomorrowland.  It’s set to hit theaters next year.
