Rachel Lindsay — ABC’s newest Bachelorette — is making history. She’s the first African American woman to be cast in this role and we know we are excited for her season to begin. 7. Regrets
While the 31-year-old beauty loves her job, her one regret is “focusing too much” on her career instead of spending time trying to find true love. She even worries that she may have missed out of her chance to find the one!

6. Tattooed
The former Bachelor contestant has two tattoos – one is on her rib cage and it reads “Reciprocity” and the other is on her left wrist and it’s a bible verse. She also enjoys attending sporting events, attending concerts, dancing, exercising, reading, and creative writing.

5. She’s from Dallas, Texas
Lindsay was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management the University of Texas at Austin in 2007 and then got her J.D. from Marquette University in Milwaukee with a concentration in sports law.

4. She’s an Attorney
The Texas native isn’t just a pretty face – she’s actually really accomplished. Before becoming the Bachelorette, she worked as an attorney in Dallas, Texas, at the law firm, Cooper & Sally. Her expertise is listed as insurance law on the firm’s bio page. Working in law seems to run in the family – her father is a federal judge!

3. She Is Ready to Start a Family
She told Jimmy Kimmel on his late night show that she’s ready to settle down and start a family. “I’m looking for someone who’s ready for what I’m ready for,” she said. “At this point in my life, at 31, I’m ready to find a husband, someone who’s ready to start a family. Someone who can make me laugh [and has] a great smile.”

2. She’s Close with her Family
Rachel is super close with her family. She has one younger sister who looks really similar to her. Her sister has a kid, which makes Rachel an aunt. She shared a super cute picture on Instagram of her nephew. On Sundays, her entire family attends the Concord Church of Dallas together.

1. Community-Oriented
While she belongs to a number of legal associations like the J.L. Turner Legal Association, American Inns of Court – Patrick E. Higginbotham Chapter, Dallas Bar Association, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, and State Bar of Wisconsin, she is also a volunteer for Beacon Hill Preparatory Institute, where she tutors high school students in reading, writing, and SAT prep.
