(LOS ANGELES) — There have been several reports stating that Gwen Stefani is officially joining The Voice as a coach, but there had been no confirmation from NBC — until now.
Christina Aguilera was the first to confirm the plan on Tuesday. “So excited to have you join #TheVoice squad @GwenStefani!” Christina tweeted. “Welcome to our crazy fam! Kisses- xoxo.” She added the hashtag “#blondesdoitbest.”
Gwen subsequently posted onto Instagram a photo of a hand holding a microphone and flashing a peace sign, much like The Voice logo. She wrote, “It’s true!”
Then, on Tuesday night’s Voice results show, host Carson Daly confirmed the additions of both Gwen and Pharrell Williams.
The plan is for Gwen to fill in for Christina during season seven, which begins production in June. She’ll join Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell. By that time, Christina will be close to nine months’ pregnant. Christina is expected to return for season eight.
Both new coaches will perform on the show next Monday.
