(LOS ANGELES) — Katherine Heigl has filed a lawsuit against the drugstore chain Duane Reade, claiming it improperly used her image for marketing purposes.
TMZ reports that in her lawsuit, the former Grey’s Anatomy star says a paparazzo last month photographed her leaving one of the chain’s many locations in New York City, carrying a Duane Reade bag.
As she points out, the photo was later posted on the official Duane Reade Twitter account. The accompanying message read, “Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can’t resist shopping #NYC’s favorite drugstore.”
Heigl states in her lawsuit, which seeks $6 million, that she is a “highly successful television and motion picture actress, producer and celebrity,” who “continues to be in high demand in the entertainment industry.”
Heigl has only appeared in a handful of films in recent years. Her voice was heard in the animated film The Nut Job, which debuted in January.
If she is awarded a judgment, Heigl says, she’ll donate the money to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which she co-founded and which devotes itself to animal welfare.
