In June 2015, Universal Studios confirmed they were moving ahead with a third Pitch Perfect film after the enormous success of the first two. After a release date being pushed around, the movie is definitely coming out this year, and it is most definitely something for fans to look forward to. As many await the return of the Barden Bellas, we now know that production is underway and there is so much to know about the third film! Check it out:
5. Release Date
When Universal Studios released the news they were making a third film, the initial release date was set for July 17, 2017. Now that it is actually in production, things have been pushed back by quite a few months and it is now slated to hit theaters on December 22, 2017 with the tagline being, “Get ready to have a Merry Pitchmas.”

4. Who Is Returning?
As soon as the third film was announced, both Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick confirmed their involvement with very excited social media posts. Now it is known that fellow stars, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Ester Dean, Chrissie Fit, Hana Mae Lee, and Hailee Steinfeld will all also be reprising their beloved Pitch Perfect roles. Additionally, Elizabeth Banks was first slated to direct the third film after acting as producer for the first two and directing the second, but she stepped down and now Trish Sie is at the helm. Banks will still serve as a producer and will reprise her role as hilarious cappella commentator Gail.

3. New Stars
As the second film introduced Hailee Steinfeld as a new star, and considering the success of both films, there are quite a few stars, singers and actors alike who wanted to be involved in the Pitch Perfect franchise. According to reports, model and Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose well be joining the film, but her role is being kept secret. As well, Prince protege Andy Allo will have the role of Charity, a member of a rival cappella group.

2. Who Isn’t Returning
One of the things that will hurt the most for Pitch Perfect fans is that apparently Pitch Perfect 3 will not have fan favorite Skylar Astin as Jesse. To make matters worse Astin said that not only will he not be in the film, but the entire Trebles group won’t be. In December of 2016, the actor took to his Twitter to write, “Yes. As of now, the Trebles and I won’t be in the third Pitch Perfect movie. They seem to be taking the story in a different direction.”

1. Premise
One of the biggest questions fans have for the third film is what exactly is this one going to be about, and how are they going to tie everyone in with some Bellas having graduated while others have not. Naturally, producers are keeping the premise under wraps, and a big hint would be if they are spotted filming at Louisiana State University’s campus as that is the location they transformed Barden University into. For right now, however, the crew has only been in Atlanta for rehearsals and pre-production work.
