10 Celebrities Who Rock Rainbow-Colored Hair!

Published on May 14, 2014. Updated April 4, 2017

Celebrities are trendsetters. They – along with their handy stylists – help pioneer most beauty and fashion trends. Rainbow colored hair is one of the many trends celebrities have helped push. From pastel colors to bold greens, pinks and blues, celebrities have been all over it. Experimenting with rainbow hair colors would be one great way to stand out this spring/summer. Here are 10 celebrities who have rocked rainbow colored hair with great success!

10. Ke$ha

Ke$ha is a bit of a chameleon when it comes to her hair color. She has tried a number of bright colors out on her head, but the neon yellows, greens and pinks never quite worked on her. For the 2013 American Music Awards, she dyed her hair a cotton candy pink and blue. We think the pastel colors really suit the edgy songstress, although there is something about the style and color of her hair that is reminiscent of something Lady Gaga would sport.

9. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has been all over the rainbow-colored hair trend for a while. In fact, she rocked pastel-colored hair long before Ke$ha. At the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, she showed up with lavender and turquoise-colored hair. The Grammy Award-winning singer likes to switch up her hair color frequently and she is not afraid to experiment. She has tried every shade of the ROYGBIV rainbow, including many of these colors at once.

8. Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera has been experimenting with rainbow colored streaks for well over a decade. In 2012, the “Dirrty” singer decided to have some fun with her platinum blond hair by adding hot pink and purple to the tips. She debuted her new hair colors at the 40th Anniversary American Music Awards nominations. “The Voice” judge’s hair actually matched her tight purple dress by Alexander Wang. We think matching the hair with the dress was a little much!

7. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is known for sporting crazy hairstyles and wacky outfits. At the 2010 Video Music Awards, she sported some very pink hair. According to her stylist Niki Schwan, the former “American Idol” judge chose pink hair to promote her Pink Friday album. “You’re going to see a lot of pink with her over the next few months. Her hair changes with her moods. She likes to cater to what her moods are,” Schwan told MTV Style.

6. Rihanna

Rihanna is very experimental when it comes to her hair. She has changed it from dark, blonde, red, short, long, straight and curly. No one can call this pop star conventional! At the Billboard Music Awards, she rocked fire engine red hair like it was nobody’s business. “I do get picked out by people a lot more now, whereas before there was more chance I could slip away unnoticed. But I love it. I don’t know why but I just really like it. It is expressive and daring and it is also just fun to have your hair be a ridiculous color,” Rihanna said.

5. Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne doesn’t seem like a trend setter – she has had the same hairstyle for over a decade; however, when it comes to the brightly colored hair trend, she was way ahead of most celebrities. She showed up at the 2007 American Music Awards with some bright pink streaks in her blond tresses. In 2012, she tried something different. She dyed the front part of her hair pink and green. We personally prefer the pink on Lavigne. The blond and the pink contrast nicely.

4. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is quite adventurous with her hair coloring. She debuted her blue hair on “The Tonight Show withJay Leno” last fall. In an interview with E! News, the “X Factor” judge revealed why she decided to change her hair color. “I want[ed] to do something different and fun especially for live shows for X Factor. I wanted to have a really crazy color on the panel so everyone looks different,” Lovato said. Blue hair is in style – just ask Katy Perry!

3. Katy Perry

After splitting from Russell Brand, Katy Perry dyed her hair a turquoise-blue color. Her colorist Rita Hazan loves the color on her and so do we! “Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she’s cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she’s like, ‘I’m feeling a little blue, let’s go blue’ – not in her energy, just in her hair color. I felt like it’s the perfect color for her because her eyes are blue and she has the perfect skin tone to be a really vibrant, really cool, intense blue,” Hazan told MTV News.

2. Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne has had lavender hair for a few years and we think it really suits her. Her bosses on E! agree. In fact, they have forbade her from changing it. “I’m contracted to this hair color. I can’t change it for two years. I wanted to go green, but was told I wouldn’t be able to work anymore,” the “Fashion Police” host said. Lucky for her, she really likes this color. “In England, I’m called queen of the granny girls and I love it. My hair is a mix of gray, blue [and] lavender,” Osbourne said.

1. Rachel McAdams

Who knew that Rachel McAdams was such a trendsetter? Back in 2007 – before many other celebrities got into the colorful hair trend – the “The Notebook” star put pink streaks throughout her blond hair. “I always wanted pink hair. I wanted to do my whole head, but my hairstylist, Robert, was like, ‘How about we start small?’ I absolutely loved it. I still think about doing blue at some point, but I don’t like to change my hair before I’m about to do [a film]—you never know what that character’s going to be,” McAdams told Glamour.
