7 Celebrities Who Have Successful Fashion Lines

These days, celebrities can have it all. They can act, sing and they can build their own business empires. So many celebrities these days are starting their own fashion lines. While some fail miserably, there is a surprising number that actually have a lot of success. We decided to take a look at some of the celebrities that have been able to successfully launch their own fashion lines. We’re sure it wasn’t easy for them. It can sometimes be hard to be taken seriously in the fashion industry when you’re a celebrity. Here are 7 celebrities who have successful fashion lines!

7. Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani’s unique sense of fashion is what helped her land her own fashion line, L.A.M.B., in 2003. The collection is eclectic. She has said that the line got its inspiration from a variety fashion cultures, including Guatemalan, Japanese and Jamaican. A few notable celebs, like Teri Hatcher, Paris Hilton and Nicole Kidman, have taken a liking to the label and have sported some of the designs. In 2005, Stefani expanded her collection to include a more affordable line called Harajuku Lovers. It included products like a camera, mobile phone charms and undergarments. In 2006, she expanded the line again with a limited edition line of dolls called Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Fashion dolls, which were inspired of outfits that Stefani and her backup dancers, the Harajuku girls wore while on tour.

In 2007, the former front woman for No Doubt launched her own perfume, L, as part of her L.A.M.B. collection and, a year later, she released a fragrance line as part of her Harajuku Lovers line.

6. Jessica Simpson

We’re glad Jessica Simpson gave up singing and acting because she is a far better entrepreneur. It all began in 2004 when she launched Jessica Simpson Dessert by Jessica Simpson, a line of edible perfume, lip gloss and other beauty products. A year later, she launched Dessert Treats, which was marketed to a younger audience. That same year, Vince Camuto’s Camuto Group purchased the rights to license the former pop star’s name and image and, as of 2014, they had developed a handful of product lines worth $1 billion.

Simpson didn’t stop there. She designed a line of handbags, shoes, boots and intimates, as well as a maternity clothing line. She’s launched a bedroom décor line, a number of fragrances, hair and beauty products and an ecommerce beauty site. She never has to release another album because she’s worth a fortune thanks to all of these retail and commercial ventures.

5. Nicole Richie

When Nicole Richie first appeared on “The Simple Life” back in 2003, many people would never have guessed that she would one day become a style icon and fashion designer. After falling out with Paris Hilton about a decade ago, she suddenly underwent a serious style change. With her stylist Rachel Zoe’s help, she went from worst dressed to best dressed in the blink of an eye.

The reality star also discovered that she had a serious interest in fashion. In 2008, she launched her own jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960. In 2009, she designed a maternity line for A Pea in the Pod called Nicole. In 2010, she launched a women’s clothing line called Winter Kate, which featured the kind of boho-chic looks that she has become known for. During the spring of 2010, House of Harlow was extended to include clothing and shoes and, in 2011, it expanded to include handbags. In 2012, she launched her own collection for Macy’s Impulse line.

4. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen got their start on the small screen, but these two are born entrepreneurs. In between television gigs and movies, these two spent a good portion of their childhood and adolescence building their brand. They dominated the tween demographic by putting their names on everything including clothes, shoes, purses, hats, books, CDs and cassette tapes, fragrances and makeup, magazines, video and board games, dolls, posters, calendars, and even telephones and CD players.

As Mary Kate and Ashley have gotten older, they have moved away from television and movies and are much more discerning when it comes when it comes to what they put their names on. These two have expressed a serious interest in fashion. They have launched their own couture fashion label, The Row, as well as a contemporary collection called Elizabeth & James. They also released a more affordable women’s clothing line for J.C. Penny, OlsenBoye, and a t-shirt line, Stylemint.

3. Rachel Zoe

Rachel Zoe knows a thing or two about fashion. She has been styling A-list celebrities for well over a decade now and we think it safe to say that she is an expert when it comes to style. In addition to the whole styling thing, she has also dabbled in designing. In 2006, she collaborated with Judith Leiber on a line of luxury bags and, in 2009, she launched Luxe Rachel Zoe collection, which consisted of handbags, jewelry, scarves, sunglasses and outerwear.

In 2011, Zoe decided to launch her own contemporary collection of ‘60s and 70s-inspired clothing and accessories, which included separates, footwear and handbags and was sold at department stores like Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus. In 2012, the budding fashion designer announced that her line was expanding to include jewelry and accessories for cold weather. Her pieces are timeless and are known for being elegant and affordable.

2. Kate Moss

Kate Moss has been strutting the catwalk for years wearing some of the very best designers’ clothes. Given her experience wearing great fashion, one would think that she would know a thing or two about how to design it. As it turns out, she really does! She has been collaborating with the trendy retailer Top Shop for years. In 2007, she designed her first collection for them. The line included clothes, bags, shoes and belts and had prince tags ranging from £12 to £150. All of it was well received. In 2010, she tried her hand at designing accessories. She designed some super chic handbags for Longchamp.

In April 2014, the former Calvin Klein model collaborated once again with Top Shop. She unveiled her second line for them, which was inspired by many of her boho-chic clothes. “I have really missed being involved in the design process and working with the team at Topshop,” she said. “I am very excited to create a new collection that bears my name. Now more than ever, with London being at the forefront of fashion, it feels like I’m back home working with the brand.”

1. Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham has successfully transitioned from being a global pop icon to a celebrated fashion designer. Her fashion design career began about a decade ago when she began collaborating with other designers. Back in 2004, she partnered with Rock & Republic for a denim line called VB Rocks. The venture included super short miniskirts, sunglasses, a his-and-her fragrance line called Intimately Beckham, as well as her own jean collection called dVb denim.

In 2008, the former pop star debuted her first collection of dresses at New York Fashion Week. A number of A-list celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz, took a liking to her dresses. Her line has since expanded to include denim, eyewear, fragrance lines and luxury handbags. “The collection was inspired by the femininity and sophistication of the midcentury silhouette,” she said. “I’ve always been drawn to intricate, seam-detailed designs, as their structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette.”
