Published on May 30, 2019.The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most glamorous events of the entire year. The 12-day affair takes place in the glittering French Riviera and brings together A-list stars and models for an event celebrating entertainment and film. The event also brings some of the most high-fashion red carpet looks of the year, so follow along as we recap all the best and worst dressed stars for the 2019 Cannes Film Festival:
30. Best: Helen Mirren, Les Plus Belles Annees D’Une Vie
Helen Mirren stepped out at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Les Plus Belles Annees D’Une Vie wearing an absolutely gorgeous Ellie Saab dress. The combination of the foil embellishment and nude chiffon looked incredible on her!

We were quite disappointed with the look that Marion Cotillard wore for the premiere of La Bella Epoque in Cannes. We didn’t love the combination of the low-waisted skirt with the crop top which felt like an outdated style from the ’90s. The skirt also seemed to bunch and wrinkle which made it appear a little cheap.

Dakota Fanning looked so dreamy at the Once Upon A Time in Hollywood premiere where she donned a flattering satin dress designed by Armani Prive. The luxurious texture and simple cut of this dress brought the glamour factor in the most understated way.

Penelope Cruz stepped out at the Cannes Film Festival wearing a blue and white lace dress with a voluminous skirt. While we absolutely love the unique print and texture of this dress, the drop-style waist doesn’t seem the most flattering. We would have much preferred an empire waist with a look like this!

Priyanka Chopra looked absolutely angelic when she walked the Cannes red carpet for Les Plus Belles Annees D’Une Vie. Clearly, Priyanka still has wedding fever as the look came straight from Georges Hobeika Spring 2020 Bridal collection.

Julianne Moore stepped out for the premiere of Les Miserables wearing a sleek black dress designed by Louis Vuitton. While the dress itself is sophisticated, we have to admit we aren’t the biggest fans of the leather overcoat. The entire ensemble felt quite heavy and dark for a glamorous event by the Riviera.

Romee Strijd was a total bombshell at the Cannes Film Festival where she stepped out in this golden patterned dress custom-designed by Etro. The champagne-colored plunging dress definitely took lace to the next level!

Elle Fanning, unfortunately, missed the mark with her Valentino premiere dress for Les Miserables. The combination of the heavy floral print with the voluminous skirt and sleeves were quite the eyesore.

Bella Hadid made a few appearances throughout the Cannes Film Festival, but her dreamiest look was definitely this tulle Dior dress. It was the perfect balance of avant-garde and feminine!

Aishwarya Rai stepped out at the A Hidden Life premiere wearing an eye-catching metallic dress that received mixed reviews. We personally weren’t the biggest fans and felt the look was crafted with an awkward material that almost resembled plastic. Luckily her makeup was flawless and the shape of the dress flattered her figure perfectly, which made up for the stifling texture of the dress!

Alessandra Ambrosio looked like a glowing goddess at the Cannes premiere of The Dead Don’t Die. She donned a sheer dress from Ralph & Russo’s Spring 2019 Couture collection. The dress was romantic and glamorous with the hint of feathers on the leg and sheer white train.

Marion Cotillard definitely missed the mark with her premiere look for Matthias Et Maxime. The look felt overly casual with the black knit shorts and matching crop top, but even more so with the navy kimono that seemed more appropriate to wear to the beach than on a red carpet.

Olivia Culpo flaunted her figure in an embellished couture gown by Ralph & Russo for the Cannes film premiere of Sibyl. The fishtail gown was glamorous, angelic and breathtaking, which drastically exceeded all our expectations.

Amber Heard wore an interesting belted look for the Les Miserables premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. While we actually really love the whimsical long sleeves and sparkling texture of the dress, we can’t overlook the thick, cognac belt that seems out of place with this look and was quite distracting.

Camila Morrone looked gorgeous in this forthy Miu Miu dress at the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiere. The feathered hemline added the perfect touch of glamour without appearing overwhelming and the sleek satin belt showed off her impossibly tiny waist.

Selena Gomez looked gorgeous at the premiere of The Dead Don’t Die, but we just thought her look lacked the Cannes glamour factor. The Cannes red carpet is the epitome of old Hollywood classic glitz and glamour, and we wish Selena had taken advantage of the opportunity a little more.

Josephine Skriver stepped out wearing a striking rose quartz gown designed by Philosophy to the premiere of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The dress showed off her slender figure flawlessly and the rose-tinted color did wonders for highlighting her sunkissed complexion and honey-colored tresses.

Sara Sampaio stepped out in a metallic jumpsuit for the premiere of Rocketman and we have to admit we weren’t the biggest fans of her look. The combination of sequins and a jumpsuit felt a little tacky rather than unique.

We can definitely appreciate thigh-high boots and a dramatic dress individually, but when paired together, these two pieces don’t seem to flow. This is exactly what happened with Amber Heard’s burgundy look for the premiere of Pain and Glory! We absolutely love the boots and the detail of the satin dress, but together, it was an unfortunate miss.

While we weren’t in love with the metallic jumpsuit Sara Sampaio wore for the premiere of Rocketman, we absolutely loved this tangerine dress she wore for the premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The tulle Georges Hobeika number was totally glamorous and the unique color really stole the show.

Elle Fanning stepped out wearing an interesting ensemble to the premiere of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood that we have to admit we weren’t the biggest fans of. The Dior ensemble felt more theatrical than necessary and almost appeared costume-like.
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)9. Best: Bella Hadid, Pain and Glory
Bella Hadid oozed glamour when she stepped onto the Rocketman red carpet wearing a crimson dress with cutouts designed by Roberto Cavalli. The look felt very Greek goddess-inspired and proved once again that Bella Hadid is the queen of fashion in the Mediterranean.
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)8. Worst: Shailene Woodley, Rocketman
We were less than impressed by Shailene Woodley’s Dior look for the premiere of Rocketman. We’re all for tuxedo-inspired looks on women, but this was a twist on the style that didn’t quite work.
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)7. Best: Eva Longoria, Rocketman
Eva Longoria stunned on the Rocketman red carpet where she sparkled in a floor-length glitter gown by Cristina Ottaviano. There’s no better place to dress in head-to-toe gold sparkle than the Cannes red carpet, which is exactly why we love Longoria’s flattering look so much!
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)6. Worst: Juliane Moore, Rocketman
There is, however, a way to wear sparkles that can be unflattering, which is unfortunately what happened with Juliane Moore’s look for the premiere of Rocketman. The combination of the chiffon coral cape and the shiny silver sequins didn’t seem to work together in her favor.
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)5. Best: Elsa Hosk, Sybil
Elsa Hosk had all eyes on her at the premiere of Sybil when she stepped out wearing this gorgeous lavender gown designed by Alberta Ferretti. The combination of this feminine shade of purple and the whimsical feathers truly made for an unforgettable fashion moment.
(Photo by Vianney Le Caer/Invision/AP)4. Worst: Winnie Harlow, Oh Mercy!
We admittedly weren’t huge fans of Winnie Harlow’s Oh Mercy! premiere dress which was strangely reminiscent of the shape and texture of a crocodile. The look was an unfortunate miss in our books!
(Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)3. Best: Jasmine Tookes, The Traitor
Jasmine Tookes dazzled on the Cannes red carpet for the premiere of The Traitor where she stepped out wearing a powder blue dress designed by Zuhair Murad. The intricate beading on this dress is phenomenal and the entire look was unlike any other on the Cannes red carpet this year!
(Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images)2. Worst: Margot Robbie, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Margot Robbie stepped out wearing a questionable outfit at the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood premiere that unfortunately missed the mark. Her ensemble featured a pink bubble-style dress which was layered on top of loose-fitting black pants. A look like this definitely undercut the famous French event known for its formality and glamour.
(Photo by Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images)1. Best: Priyanka Chopra, Rocketman
We absolutely gushed over Priyanka Chopra’s black and red sparkling gown that she wore to the premiere of Rocketman. The Roberto Cavalli creation brought all the glitz, glamour and class that the Cannes Film Festival is all about.
