Fame10 Fashion Evolution: Meghan Markle
Published on November 9, 2017. Updated November 27, 2017The stunning Meghan Markle is on everyone’s radar these days after being linked to Prince Harry, but even more so after the announcement of their royal engagement! Even before she was associated with royalty, however, this star has been admired for her ethereal beauty and on point fashion sense. The star never steps out looking any less than perfect, even when she’s hidden beneath puffer coats and tuques while filming Suits in Toronto. From the looks of her timeless and consistently stylish sense of fashion, Markle will have no problem filling the big shoes that Kate Middleton and Lady Diana left with their iconic style. Follow along as we trace Meghan Markle’s transformation and evolving sense of fashion throughout her years in the spotlight:

Meghan Markle made some of her earlier red carpet debuts back in 2011 when Suits first began filming. As a matter of fact, 2011 was also the year that commoner Kate Middleton wed Prince William, which will seemingly mimic the same scenario if Markle and Prince Harry become engaged soon! In 2011, Markle appeared at the Anti-Defamation League event wearing a sweet and simple black dress that featured a peplum silhouette. Meghan has seemingly always had good taste when it comes to fashion, even in some of her earlier days in the spotlight where many up and coming stars tend to fall victim to their biggest fashion misses.

A few months later, Markle appeared once again at a low key event for The Moth’s Storytelling Tour in LA. Her look is fashion-forward and flatters her slender figure, but it definitely appears on the safer side than some of her later fashion moments. The navy dress was covered in lace and featured three quarter length sleeves that were completely sheer for a delicate extra touch. Markle kept the entire look quite simple and opted for a pair of standard nude heels and a charm bracelet on one wrist.

In November 2012, Meghan Markle stepped out wearing a bolder dress than her previous two looks that featured a color block pattern and bandage-style fit. Despite being strapless and body-hugging, the dress still remained modest by reaching to her knees. The royal blue waistband detail flattered her figure, but overall this look wasn’t anything groundbreaking or overly memorable.

In May 2013, it was clear that Markle was still in the safe phase of her fashion transformation. Although the checkered pattern of this look was bold, the boxy fit of the T-shirt style dress was definitely the modest and safe bet. She paired the look with a coordinating chunky bangle, left her hair to fall in natural voluminous waves and topped the look with simple black pumps.

Later in 2013, Markle appeared in a dress that definitely turned heads and was a nice change from her typical sweet and safe looks! The strapless black gown featured ruching in all the right places and bunched up in a visually interesting bow right at her hip. The dress showed skin by baring her shoulders but was by no means overly revealing. She made the look appear super elegant by sweeping her hair over to one side of her shoulder and added a pair of drop style earrings.

In February 2014, the edginess that we recognize as essential to Meghan Markle’s style today started to make an appearance. Markle wore a feminine white dress that hit her just above the knees and featured flattering pleats all the way down the length of the dress. This look would appear otherwise quite whimsical and girly, but Markle added an edge to it by pairing an embellished leather jacket on top! She kept her makeup dark and smokey and left her hair messy and loose. It’s clear by this look that Markle is slowly starting to find her unique personal style.

In October 2014, Markle stepped out wearing a teal mermaid style dress that was the perfect balance of sultry and classic. The look featured minimal embellishment which allowed the simple flattering shape of the dress and rich color to be the focal point. The dark shade of teal was the perfect jewel tone to flatter Markle’s complexion. She paired the look with a few simple bangles on one wrist and swept her hair back into a whimsical and loose updo.

In November 2015, Meghan stepped out at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards awards wearing one of her most memorable looks yet! The metallic mini dress featured a plunging neckline and long sleeve detailing. The overall shape of the dress seemingly resembles a suit with its pocket details and buttoned sleeves which created a sophisticated vibe. We love when Markle takes risks with her fashion and this reflective number was definitely an example of that! She paired the dress with a box clutch and strappy black and clear shoes. For beauty, she kept her hair loose and wispy and rocked her classic vampy smokey eye.

In January 2016 Meghan Markle stepped out in a bold wine-colored dress that undeniably turned heads! The rich dress featured a brocade-style design embroidered all across and was super sophisticated with its high neck detailing and elbow length sleeves. The short hemline of the dress added a feminine and flirty twist onto the look, especially when paired with strappy pointed toe heels. To top off the look, Markle donned a deep burgundy lip that brought the whole look together.

By March 2016, it became clear that Markle undeniably has her signature sophisticated and edgy style completely solidified! The star looked more confident than ever as she rocked a blazer and shorts combo made of a modest tweed material. Underneath she donned a white silk blouse and left a few of the top buttons undone to make the look appear a little deconstructed. She paired the look with metallic heels and a pop of color red bag. We love how Markle strategically styled the classic suit look into her own style by adding edgy pieces, bold colors and of course, her classic smokey eye!

In November 2017, Meghan stepped out to make her first appearance as the fiancee of Prince Harry wearing an ultra chic wrap coat from a Canadian brand called Line the Label. The timeless cream coat quickly became an icon and was completely sold out online before noon, which has happened quite often with items of clothing that her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton has worn. “Meghan has an effortlessly chic sense of style, which we’ve always admired,” the company shared in a statement while adding that they renamed the coat the “Meghan” to honor the newly engaged couple.
