35. Best: Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz stunned at the Golden Globes this year wearing a sultry Ralph & Russo gown covered in iridescent beading and sparkle. The swirls of deep purple and green throughout the dress were seriously stunning and unlike anything we’ve seen before on the red carpet!
2
34. Worst: Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum is quite hit or miss when it comes to red carpet fashion. For the 2019 Golden Globes, however, we can’t say we were the biggest fans of her choice of attire. The Monique Lhuillier gown featured a sheer, corset bodice and a voluminous skirt featuring multi-color flower decals which in all honesty felt a little childish.
3
33. Best: Kiki Layne
Kiki Layne looked absolutely angelic on the Golden Globes red carpet in this tulle corset gown. The custom Dior number in a stunning shade of ashy blush worked perfectly to highlight Layne’s skin tone. We also love how her hair was coiled into a polished topknot, which we thought resembled an elegant ballerina.
4
32. Worst: Caitriona Balfe
We’re not quite sure what Caitriona Balfe was thinking with this black and burgundy velvet number at the Golden Globes! The unusual silhouette of the dress added unnecessary volume to Balfe’s slender figure.
5
31. Best: Keri Russell
Keri Russell was the epitome of glam at the 2019 Golden Globes this year! We absolutely love this plunging sparkly number, especially the fact that it was risque while still looking elegant. Russell topped the look with a dramatic smokey eye and blown out tresses.
6
30. Worst: Debra Messing
Feathers are a huge trend this year in the world of fashion, but the key to this trend is to style feathers in a tasteful way. We were excited to see feathers make their way onto the red carpet, but unfortunately, Messing’s take on the trend missed the mark. The shape of the dress overwhelmed her figure and the combination of sparkles and feathers felt like too much.
7
29. Best: Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell looked totally elegant at the Golden Globes this year in this simplistic pale pink gown. She stuck by the fashion rule “less is more” and opted for something very minimal, which is exactly why we loved it! The clean shape and polished pleats really allowed Bell’s beauty to shine.
8
28. Worst: Kate Mara
Many fashion critics were quite confused with Kate Mara’s choice of ensemble for this year’s Golden Globes! The bodice of the dress seemed quite heavy with all the oversized sparkle and beading. The empire waist also felt a little outdated. Luckily, her polished topknot and smokey makeup looked stunning.
9
27. Best: Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman looked stunning and statuesque in this sequined maroon dress at the 2019 Golden Globes. The long-sleeved Michael Kors Collection number flattered her figure because it fit her perfectly and was tailored well, which is the key to a winning red carpet look. She topped her look with ruby nails and held a glittering disco ball-inspired bag in her for an eccentric style touch.
10
26. Worst: Amber Heard
Aquaman star Amber Heard opted for a black and white monochrome look for this year’s Golden Globes. Typically we love a simple color palette like black and white, but this Monique Lhuillier gown seemed to miss the mark. The contrast of the black and white was quite harsh and the entire dress didn’t seem to be the most flattering shape. Luckily, her hair and makeup looked absolutely stunning which somewhat made up for the dress mishap!
11
25. Best: Halle Berry
Halle Berry is one of those stars who simply gets better with age! The star looked seriously swoon-worthy in this burgundy dress that featured intricate sheer paneling and velvet detailing throughout. The dress fit her like a glove and was super glamorous with the high slit and ruched waist detailing.
12
24. Worst: Kaley Cuoco
While we love how relatable Kaley Cuoco was with her dress that featured pockets, we also aren’t totally sure about how we feel about this look on a whole. The white skirt and navy velvet top didn’t seem to flow together, especially with the oversized bow along the hip.
13
23. Best: Emma Stone
Many were on the fence about Emma Stone’s long sleeve blush pink gown, but we personally were huge fans! The silver detailing reminded us of the shimmering scales of a mermaid. Stone is never one to show off her figure on the red carpet, so a full coverage ensemble like this is very suiting to her personal style — a lot of modesty with a little glitz! According to People, the beading seen on the dress is actually 63,000 twisted glass tubes. All in all, the Louis Vuitton Atelier gown took over 800 hours to make.
14
22. Worst: Kristin Cavallari
As someone with her own fashion line, we definitely have high expectations when The Hills alum Kristin Cavallari hits the red carpet. Unfortunately, we weren’t thrilled with her choice of dress for the 2019 Golden Globes. While the golden gown itself seems to flatter her in all the right places, there was one major detail we couldn’t overlook — how long the sleeves were! A simple trip to the tailor would have amped up this ill-fitting look dramatically.
15
21. Best: Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse Ronan dazzled on the Golden Globes red carpet in this silver chainmail dress with a plunging neckline. She was one of the last to arrive on the red carpet and she seriously stole the show! The striking Gucci dress was sultry but also delicate, which made it a seriously jaw-dropping red carpet moment.
16
20. Worst: Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae is always experimental with her fashion, but we’re not sure her 2019 Golden Globes look was a risk well-rewarded. The Chanel look consisted of tailored tweed dress with dramatic gold detailing and a white underlay that peaked out on her arms and legs. To make matters even more strange, she topped the look with a circular gold hat that definitely had fashion critics scratching their heads.
17
19. Best: Allison Janney
Allison Janney undeniably made heads turn on the 2019 Golden Globes red carpet where she stepped out wearing this bold and bright aqua Christian Siriano gown. She paired the striking off-the-shoulder gown with an eye-catching multi-color David Webb necklace. We love that Janney did something different with her look rather than opting for a typical gold or black dress like many stars tend to do on the red carpet!
18
18. Worst: Melissa McCarthy
We absolutely love Melissa McCarthy, but we have to admit, we aren’t the biggest fans of this purple look she wore on the Golden Globes red carpet. The dress had a super overpowering silhouette with all the ruffles and tiers which detracted from her beauty rather than enhancing it. We also aren’t the biggest fans of the star detailing across the bust which seemed a little childish.
19
17. Best: Lili Reinhart
Lili Reinhart had a serious Princess moment on the Golden Globes red carpet this year! The Riverdale star stepped out wearing an extravagant red chiffon dress with a train that commanded attention. We especially love the ruffle details on the backside of Reinhart’s Khyeli Couture-designed dress.
20
16. Worst: Rachel Weisz
Rachel Weisz was another black and white Golden Globes look gone wrong this year! We’re huge fans of a monochrome color palette like this, but this specific dress didn’t seem to flatter Weisz very much. The ruffles along the bust simply overpowered her shape and didn’t do her figure justice.
21
15. Best: Gemma Chan
Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan stole the show when she stepped out in this glamorous, deep teal number at the 2019 Golden Globes. The Valentino Couture number featured shorts beneath a full, voluminous skirt, which in retrospect, was quite risky, but she pulled it off fabulously.
22
14. Worst: Claire Foy
We were quite on the fence about whether we loved or hated Claire Foy’s sunny yellow Golden Globes look, but there was one deciding factor that pushed us against this number — the tailoring! How well a dress fits is one of the key factors to a red carpet look, and unfortunately, Foy’s look seemed to gape and fall loosely along the bust which wasn’t the most flattering.
23
13. Best: Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o is one of the most well-dressed women in Hollywood, and she proved that even further with her striking beaded look for the 2019 Golden Globes. The floor length dress was a stunning blue-violet color and featured intricate silver beading throughout. For even more glitz, Nyong’o topped the look with sparkling drop-style earrings.
24
12. Worst: Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron was another star who wore a black and white number that left us on the fence. The shape of this dress isn’t too bad, but the oversized bow detailing along the neckline seemed out of place and overpowered Theron’s slender silhouette.
25
11. Best: Taylor Swift
Pop star Taylor Swift shocked everyone when she stepped out to present an award unexpectedly at the Golden Globes! The singer rarely makes public appearances these days, so the red carpet moment definitely came as a surprise. Luckily, all the time away was well rewarded with her glamorous black dress. The sheer beaded Atelier Versace look was definitely one of Swift’s more risque looks, but it seemed to suit her new image perfectly with her latest Reputation album.
26
10. Worst: Anne Hathaway
As much as we love cheetah print, we’re not sure it has a place on the red carpet! Anne Hathaway took a big risk when she stepped out at the Golden Globes wearing this bold full-length cheetah look. She definitely looks fierce in the Ellie Saab number, but overall it was quite the fashion misstep.
27
9. Best: Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts can do no wrong on the red carpet! The star opted for something quite bold this year, but we were huge fans. Rather than choosing either pants or a dress, the iconic actress instead decided to wear both in this hybrid ensemble. We think she looks absolutely stunning!
28
8. Worst: Jessica Chastain
Unfortunately, we weren’t the biggest fans of Jessica Chastain’s black beaded look for this year’s Golden Globes awards. The Burberry look featured a corset bodice, sheer cape detailing and beaded draping along the skirt. While we love all the drama of this look, it simply seemed to miss the mark when it came to using proportions that flattered Chastain’s figure. The corset seemed to hit her hips at the wrong spot and the draping drowned her slender figure.
29
7. Best: Regina King
Regina King was an absolute bombshell on this year’s Golden Globes red carpet. She opted for an Alberta Ferretti dress in a dazzling shade of rose gold that flattered her complexion and features flawlessly. It hugged her curves in the best way possible and truly left us speechless!
30
6. Worst: Elisabeth Moss
Elisabeth Moss opted for an unconventional dress for this year’s Golden Globes, but we have to admit we didn’t think it was the most appropriate! The look seemed much better suited for a holiday party or low key event than the glamorous Golden Globes red carpet.
31
5. Best: Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is known to make an entrance when it comes to the red carpet, and she definitely didn’t disappoint for the Golden Globes. The A Story is Born actress opted for the eccentric route and decided to match her dress to her freshly dyed pastel hair! We absolutely love this unexpected touch of coordination.
32
4. Worst: Francia Raisa
Francia Raisa had an unfortunate miss on this year’s Golden Globes red carpet where she stepped out in a black Malan Breton gown. We love a good black dress, but this look seemed to be all over the place. From the ruffles to the ill-fitting sheer panels and the mermaid skirt, there was simply too much going on with this look.
33
3. Best: Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning looked gorgeous in this iridescent dress designed by Armani Prive. The icy dress made her look every bit a winter Princess and was seriously flattering with the seams trailing down the length of the dress in all the right places. This elegant fashion moment is definitely one that we’ll never forget!
34
2. Worst: Judy Greer
Masculine tuxedo dressing is one of our favorite looks for women to wear on the red carpet, but Judy Greer totally missed the mark with this trend. The wide leg pants drowned her figure and the tuxedo and bow tie combo was far too sharp and harsh.
35
1. Best: Sandra Oh
Of all the Golden Globes red carpet looks last night, our absolute favorite had to be Sandra Oh’s debut dress on the red carpet. The co-host and Golden Globe winner definitely had a monumental evening with a wardrobe to match! We love all the flattering ruching on this dress and her old Hollywood-inspired finger waves.
