Kate Middleton’s India Tour: 10 Best & Worst Outfits
Published on April 18, 2016. Updated January 17, 2019Kate Middleton is one of the most famous women in the world and everyone is always watching her, waiting to see what she’s going to wear. She and Prince William recently completed a much anticipated and well-publicized tour of India and Bhutan, and many of us were really excited to see what she would wear. We have rounded up the best and worst looks, but we must say – Kate’s fashion wasn’t terribly exciting and, for the most part, was a little bland.

10. Worst: Alexander McQueen Dress
Kate Middleton’s red paisley Alexander McQueen dress had really interesting designs and the color looked fantastic on her, but the style of the dress wasn’t especially flattering and we blame the peplum. We’re just not a fan.

She wore this two-piece Temperley London ensemble, which was stitched in black with swirling motifs of Indian Chintz. At first glance, this dress looks like a maxi, but the top is actually cropped. She finished the look with chandelier earrings covered in black jewels and a satin clutch. Our only regret is that she didn’t choose this dress in a more vibrant color.

The Duchess of Cambridge had a really awkward “Marilyn Moment” in this crème colored Emilia Wickstead dress. The full skirt of the dress was blown up by a gust of wind while she and William were paying tribute to 70,000 Indian soldiers who died during World War I. It wasn’t her finest moments and it definitely wasn’t one of her nicest dresses.

The Duchess wore this floor-length green and blue printed Anna Sui dress for the Bihu Festival Celebration in Kaziranga, India. She paired the frock with green statement earrings and a simple pair of black wedges. We love the colors and the patterns on the dress – they are breathtakingly beautiful. We only wish the dress was more tailored to her figure.

There was something really beautiful about the green Temperley dress that Kate wore during her tour, but given where she was touring (India), it didn’t really fit. It also didn’t help that with all the lace detail the dress kind of looked like a doily. The only redeeming quality the dress had was the color – it suits her.

She mixed it up with this this printed red maxi dress, which only cost $77! She wore it when she visited the Salaam Baalak Trust, where she and Willaim spent time with some street youths. She added a blue belt to the dress and paired the dress with some Russell & Bromley XPresso pointed flat shoes.

The $140 Top Shop dress that Kate wore to feed the baby animals at Kaziranga National Park in India wasn’t the worst dress that she wore, but it just wasn’t very interesting. The colors were bland and so were the patterns. We wish she would go for more vibrant colors with dresses that actually highlight her fantastic figure. What’s the point of losing all of the baby weight so quickly if she’s going to hide in burlap sack-like dresses?

The Duchess of Cambridge really outdid herself with this floor-length, retro Tony Burch dress. The colors – all the orange, green, black and white – looked perfect together. She accessorized with an orange pashmina and a pair of strappy Gianvito Rossi pumps. We wish she’d throw on a dress like this more often!
2. Best: Jenny Packham Gown
She sparkled in this royal blue, full length Jenny Packham gown. The gorgeous beading on the dress was actually done by artisans in India and she also chose an Indian jewelry designer, Amrapali, for the drop earrings. We think she looked pretty lovely and we like that the dress fused her style back home in England with Indian fashion.
1. Best: Naeem Khan Resort dress
When Kate and William visited the Taj Mahal, she wore this blue and white Naeem Khan dress from the Indian-American designer’s Resort 2015 collection. She accessorized with chandelier earrings and a neutral pair of L.K. Bennett pumps. The best parts about this dress are the details. They really are exquisite.
