Ranked: Meghan Markle’s Maternity Style

Published on March 11, 2019. Updated October 9, 2019

The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has a worldwide fan base that closely follows her fashion, and even more so now that she’s pregnant! We love seeing which fresh maternity trends the Duchess has up her sleeve to style her bump and we have been super impressed with what she’s come up with so far. With her due date being speculated for this coming April, follow along as we rank the maternity looks Meghan has worn so far during her pregnancy:

22. Nailed It: March 11, 2019

Meghan opted for a stunning Victoria Beckham dress on Commonwealth Day that consisted of a bold, chain pattern. To channel a little tradition, Meghan accessorized with a mod-inspired circular pillbox hat, which was an iconic Jackie O look for many years. For a pop of color, Meghan topped the crisp white ensemble with olive-colored pumps and a matching olive clutch.

Meghan has a very petite and slender frame, so it’s important that she pays close attention to tailoring and fit when she’s selecting an outfit. As much as we love Meghan in a casual maternity look, we have to admit this one wasn’t one of her best. The black skinny jeans fit a little big and looked slouchy and messy sitting on top of her lace-up boots. We would have much preferred a skinnier fit of jean and a more polished shoe to make her look a little more refined and neat.

20. Nailed It: March 5, 2019

In early March, the expecting mother-to-be opted for a striking gold dress which she topped with one of her favorite white coats by Amanda Wakeley. The golden number hit her just above the knee and featured an absolutely gorgeous cream and gold brocade pattern that gave off a metallic sheen. The shift style shape of this dress really flattered the Duchess’ budding baby bump and the golden tones made her appear even more glowing than she already is!

19. Missed the Mark: October 31, 2018

Meghan Markle turned quite a few heads in one of her appearances on the 2018 Australia/New Zealand tour where she wore a royal blue sweater and skirt combo. While we love the pleated midi skirt and the contrasting pops of light blue, we’re not sure that the mom-to-be realized the skirt was completely sheer in the daylight! The look bared all from the waist down and we’re quite certain the Queen would not have been a fan of a look this revealing on a Duchess.

18. Nailed It: December 25, 2018

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were one of the sharpest dressed couples at the Christmas Day church service in 2018. The pregnant Duchess revealed her small budding bump in a midi-length knit navy dress. She paired the look with a matching navy overcoat, scrunchy leather boots and a formal fascinator on her head. The navy monochrome look was pure fabulousness!

17. Missed the Mark: February 25, 2019

The Duchess of Sussex stepped out for a casual appearance on February 25 while visiting Morocco. Meghan opted for a simple striped long sleeve, black jeans and a pair of mid-calf boots. While it’s refreshing to see Markle in a casual look rather than her typical sophisticated dresses and suits, we couldn’t help but feel a little underwhelmed by this look. The pants looked a little messy tucked into the boots and didn’t quite fit her properly, and the entire look felt quite lackluster.

16. Nailed It: February 12, 2019

The Duchess of Sussex put her own personal twist on winter whites when she stepped out in late February wearing a full white ensemble for a visit to the Natural History Museum in London to attend a gala performance. To jazz up the simple look, Markle accessorized with olive green pumps and a coordinating clutch, which brought a lovely and fashion-forward pop of color.

15. Missed the Mark: October 24, 2018

For their second day in Fiji, Meghan and Harry both stepped out wearing flowery, boho numbers. While it’s rare to see Markle in a print, we can’t say this is one of our favorite styles on her! The shape of the dress itself isn’t too bad, but the bold print in combination with the pom-pom detailing at the waist came across a little tacky.

14. Nailed It: November 21, 2018

The expecting Duchess stepped out in late November 2018 wearing an absolutely gorgeous monochrome ensemble in a rich shade of burgundy. Markle’s shift dress featured a polished peter pan collar that she layered with a coordinating wool jacket on top. She opted for black tights and booties as accessories and pulled her hair into a low updo to complete the ensemble.

13. Missed the Mark: October 23, 2018

We definitely have a love-hate relationship with this crisp blue look worn by Markle for a state dinner at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Fiji. It was one of the first appearances where her budding baby bump was noticeable. While we seriously love this shade of blue on Markle and typically adore cape-style dresses, this one surprisingly wasn’t the most flattering. Since there was no detail, the cape and the silhouette of the dress blended into each other and made Markle appear much wider than she actually is!

12. Nailed It: January 16, 2019

In mid-January, Meghan absolutely dazzled in a navy glittering dress by Roland Mouret. This gorgeous sequined gown certainly made a statement with its three-quarter length sleeves, leg slit, and sparkly finish. For her beauty look, Meghan opted for a classic low bun that’s become her signature hairstyle. She deepened her makeup for the evening event with a bronzed smokey eye and a glossy berry lip.

11. Missed the Mark: November 19, 2018

As much as we love a black and white fashion moment, we have to admit that this halter look worn by Meghan in November wasn’t one of her strongest maternity moments. The Duchess stepped out to attend the Royal Variety performance wearing a floor-length black skirt with a top featuring sequined white floral details. We felt that the proportions of this look didn’t seem to flatter Meghan properly, and especially so with the awkward length of the top.

10. Nailed It: January 31, 2019

Meghan Markle has mastered the art of styling a little black dress, which she made clear with the look she wore in January while attending an engagement with the Association of Commonwealth Universities. She opted for a chic black pleated dress which she paired with a tailored black coat that she buttoned at the top. The entire look felt elegant and almost ballerina-inspired with the polished high-bun hairstyle.

9. Missed the Mark: January 14, 2019

We have to admit that we weren’t the biggest fans of this bold colorful look worn by Markle in mid-January during a visit to Birkenhead. The combination of red and purple totally clashed and the entire look came as quite the shock from the neutral-favoring Duchess.

8. Nailed It: January 30, 2019

This monochrome light blush look Meghan wore in late January is definitely one of our favorite Royal looks she’s worn to date! This lovely neutral shade works flawlessly to highlight her complexion and the head-to-toe tonal dressing was very on trend for 2019.

7. Missed the Mark: February 7, 2019

Meghan is a huge fan of effortless fashion, but we felt this particular look she wore in early February was simply lackluster rather than effortless. The shirt and skirt seemed to buckle and wrinkle in all the wrong places and didn’t highlight her budding baby bump in a flattering way.

6. Nailed It: February 23, 2019

Meghan Markle definitely made heads turn when she stepped out in late February at the Casablanca Airport in Morocco wearing this rich scarlet dress. The shift style shape was really flattering, especially with the cape-style detail across the shoulders and three-quarter length sleeves.

5. Missed the Mark: February 24, 2019

We weren’t the biggest fans of this conservative look worn by Markle on the second day of their Royal tour of Morocco. The dress seemed to drown her in fabrics and felt a little outdated in terms of maternity fashion. The color also wasn’t the most flattering and seemed to wash her out.

4. Nailed It: January 10, 2019

Markle proved that you don’t need to wear bold colors to make a statement with this chic look she wore in early January! She opted for a slim fit black dress that skimmed her knees which she layered with a classic trench on top. To add a pop of something unexpected, Markle wore a pair of cow print shoes that totally caught us by surprise in the best way possible.

3. Missed the Mark: February 24, 2019

Meghan Markle stepped out during her two-day Morocco tour wearing a muted navy and black look that we felt quite underwhelmed by in all honesty. The look seemed to lack some much-needed texture or contrast in color.

2. Nailed It: December 18, 2018

Just before Christmas Meghan Markle stepped out in a floral and grey outfit for a visit to the Royal Variety Charity’s residential nursing and care home. We absolutely love the subtle lavender tint of this dress and how beautifully the cool tones pick up on the structured grey coat.

1. Missed the Mark: February 25, 2019

Meghan recently stepped out in Morocco wearing a floor-length patterned dress that we weren’t the biggest fans of. The double-tiered ruffled sleeves overwhelmed her figure, especially when paired with the sweeping skirt that had no shape. We wish this look had cinched in or had an empire waist for a more updated version of maternity fashion.
