Met Gala 2018: 14 Best Dressed StarsPublished on May 8, 2018.
Each year the first Monday of May marks the biggest event of the year when it comes to fashion — the annual Met Gala! The high-fashion event follows an extravagant theme that the red carpet attendees are intended to follow when they make their big fashion debut. This year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” which meant many of the costumes encompassed heavy crosses, angel wings, and light, golden textures. The Met Gala is one of the only red carpet events where wearing an over-the-top outfit is the key to standing out and looking fabulous, so follow along for 14 of the most well-dressed stars at the 2018 Metropolitan Institute Costume Gala:
14. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley used angel imagery as her inspiration when dressing for the 2018 Met Gala. Her dress was designed by Ralph Lauren and featured a deep, plunging neckline and a soft, sheer cape which draped elegantly over her shoulders. To top the look, Whiteley wore a delicate angel halo on her head which really pulled the look together and amped the ensemble up from a typical red carpet look to a Met Gala costume.
13. Hailey Baldwin
Hailey Baldwin was all smiles last night at the Met Gala where she stepped out with boyfriend Shawn Mendes to make their official Hollywood debut! The two stepped out in style both wearing Tommy Hilfiger, but Baldwin definitely made jaws drop with her soft smokey blue dress. The look wasn’t overly extravagant, but the dramatic train, elegant sleeves and dainty flower crown definitely pulled the look together and made it Met Gala appropriate.
12. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez looked like an absolute bombshell at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out in this dramatic Balmain gown. The look consisted of a structured bodice that featured a red and blue beaded cross detail alongside a long feathered skirt which trailed behind her. Lopez encapsulated the Catholic theme in the most J. Lo way possible and still showed a little leg with the high-slit detailing.
11. Kate Bosworth
Kate Bosworth looked absolutely angelic on this year’s Met Gala red carpet wearing this golden tulle Oscar De La Renta dress that somewhat resembled bridalwear. The true showstopper, however, was the addition of the Catholic-inspired veil which featured teardrop mother-of-pearl detailing along the edges. Bosworth nailed the Heavenly Bodies theme in the most elegant way possible and had all eyes on her as she dazzled her way across the red carpet.
10. Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez looked ethereal and glowing on the 2018 Met Gala red carpet where she stepped out wearing this soft, feminine Coach number. The dress brought maximum drama with its dramatic train which trailed elegantly behind her as she walked. The powder pink color of the dress paired perfectly with Gomez’s complexion and really made her dark features and bronzed skin glow.
9. Lili Reinhart
Lili Reinhart was one of the most buzzed about stars at last night’s Met Gala and for more reasons than just her stunning outfit! The Riverdale star made her official public debut with long-rumored boyfriend and co-star Cole Sprouse. Reinhart stole the show at the red carpet for both this reveal and the stunning silver H&M dress she rocked. The look featured a super short skirt which balanced well with the proportions of the long, sparkling train and off-the-shoulder balloon sleeves.
8. Diane Kruger
Diane Kruger had one of the most epic looks of the evening as she stepped out in this strapless aquamarine dress which featured a dramatic cape detailing cascading behind her. The look featured silver swirling embellishment along the minidress and the cape ruffled and ruched in all the right places. To bring the Met Gala drama and Catholic theme to life, Kruger veiled her face with a unique pearl headpiece.
7. Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian’s appearance at the Met Gala is one of the most anticipated moments of the entire evening, and she did not disappoint! In typical Kardashian fashion, Kim stepped out this sleek gold number which showed off her gravity-defying curves in the most flattering way possible. To bring the Met Gala drama, Kardashian rocked crosses along her full-sequin gown and pulled her hair into a voluminous, high ponytail.
6. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande’s dramatic Vera Wang dress was a literal work of art! She nailed the theme in every sense because the dramatic number was inspired by Michaelangelo’s The Last Judgement painting. The gown was an exact replica of the artwork and even featured the highly pristine and intricate Sistine Chapel on it. Aside from the intense detail involved in the dress, the purple and bronze colors worked flawlessly with Grande’s olive-toned skin.
Rihanna has built quite the reputation for herself when it comes to dramatic Met Gala looks, and she definitely delivered! She took the Catholic theme quite literally and donned a Pope-inspired outfit designed by Maison Margiela. The look consisted of a minidress, cape, and headpiece which were all fully encrusted with pearls, crystals, and beading. To say jaws dropped when Rihanna stepped onto the red carpet would be an understatement.
4. Amal Clooney
Amal Clooney was more than just an attendee at last night’s Met Gala, the star actually co-chaired the event alongside Anna Wintour and Donatella Versace. Naturally, Clooney opted for something dramatic and rocked a custom Richard Quinn design which consisted of tailored navy trousers, a metallic corset and a shimmering floral skirt. It was quite unexpected for Clooney to opt for pants, but she looked so undeniably elegant that we can’t help but applaud the entire look!
3. Katy Perry
Katy Perry is another star who is always highly anticipated at the Met Gala. She has a reputation for opting for the most dramatic look possible, and she lived up to the expectations for the 2018 Met Gala this year! Her extravagant look consisted of an embellished gold mini dress, thigh-high boots and a set of opulent feathered wings designed by Versace. The look perfectly embodied the theme and the impressive wings spanned nearly six feet while she graced the Met Gala red carpet.
2. Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid made a grand entrance and stole the show when she stepped out at the Met Gala wearing this sheer navy and gold dress designed by Versace. The look was a literal work of art and designed to mimic the beauty of a stained-glass window with its patterned paneling and shimmering colors. She looked completely ethereal and glowing, especially with her voluminous hairstyle and smoked out navy eye makeup.
1. Blake Lively
Heads turned and jaws dropped when Blake Lively stepped out in this opulent ruby red number designed by Versace. The look featured a bodice encrusted with crystals and jewels and the rich velvet skirt featured regal golden embroidery throughout. She accessorized with $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes and pulled her hair into an intricate updo with a halo-esque headpiece. The ornate look was undeniably one of the best of the entire evening! Could we have a new Met Gala queen?
