(Photo by John Shearer/Getty Images for THR)

The first Monday of May always signifies one very important day in the world of fashion: the annual Met Gala! This year’s event followed the theme of “Camp” which celebrated exaggerated, extreme fashion. The celebrities of Hollywood definitely took this theme quite literally and stepped out wearing looks bolder and better than ever, in most cases! Follow along as we rank all the red carpet hits and misses at the 2019 Met Gala:

40. Miss: Yara Shahidi

We have to admit we were a little disappointed with Yara Shahidi’s look for this year’s Met Gala! Shahidi has a natural sense of style and is always one of the best-dressed women at an awards show, but this look simply missed the mark. The pairing of the embellished bodysuit, sparkling tights, and feather coat didn’t seem to flow together and lacked the Met Gala wow factor.

39. Hit: Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev wore a jaw-dropping Zac Posen design for the 2019 Met Gala this year that was 3D-printed to her exact measurements. Posen explained that the look was intended to mimic the look of a glass slipper and appear to be floating, which was exactly what was accomplished!

38. Miss: Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot stepped out in a bold Givenchy number for this year’s Met Gala that we have to admit we didn’t totally love. The combination of the structured minidress and the black thigh-high boots didn’t seem to flow and the shape of the dress itself was a little strange.

37. Hit: Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour is the epitome of the Met Gala so it’s no surprise that she was one of the first arrivals of the evening. The Vogue Editor-in-Chief stepped out wearing a column-style Chanel gown covered in pastel-colored crystals and beading. She topped the look with a fabulous feathered jacket which added an incomparable glamour factor.

36. Miss: Demi Moore

As much as we love Demi Moore, we were seriously disappointed with her look for the Met Gala this year. There was nothing special or “camp” about her look and it seemed like something she could have worn on any other red carpet throughout the year. She definitely missed the mark with the theme this year!

35. Hit: Constance Wu

Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu absolutely dazzled at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing a silver beaded dress designed by Marchesa. From the intricate embellishment to the sheer detailing to the whimsical floating sleeves, this look screamed glitz and glamour.

34. Miss: Liza Koshy

Liza Koshy stepped out at this year’s Met Gala wearing a sculptural Balmain creation. The look was asymmetrical with one sleeve being sheer and sparkling, and the other pink, sharp and feathered. Fashion critics weren’t super impressed with her look!

33. Hit: Camila Mendes

Riverdale star Camila Mendes absolutely dazzled at her first-ever Met Gala where she opted for a lemon-colored dress designed by Prabal Gurung. We absolutely love the contrast of the powder blue sash and shoes with the bright yellow. It’s an unexpected color combination that worked beautifully!

32. Miss: Emma Stone

Emma Stone’s Louis Vuitton look for this year’s Met Gala was quite underwhelming to the point that she was totally overlooked on fashion roundups covering the event. The sparkling jumpsuit definitely missed the exaggerated “camp” theme and was in all honestly, quite unremarkable.

31. Hit: Madelaine Petsch

Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch channeled her inner Tinkerbell for this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing an aqua blue dainty gown with wings designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. We absolutely love the sheer hoop skirt and structured, yet delicate detailing of this dress that was unlike anything else on the red carpet.

30. Miss: Cardi B

Cardi B did not hold back at all this year at the Met Gala where she stepped out in this deep burgundy color dress designed by Thom Browne. The extravagant dress actually required an entourage of 10 people to guide it along the red carpet, but we have to admit we weren’t huge fans of the look. It seemed quite stifling with the heavy material that covered her head to toe.

29. Hit: Halsey

Halsey stepped out wearing a superhero-inspired look for this year’s Met Gala that was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before! We definitely got Wonder Woman vibes with this look from the gold arm cuffs and the crisp shade of powerful scarlet red.

28. Miss: Kim Kardashian

Many were conflicted as to whether they loved or hated Kim Kardashian’s look for this year’s Met Gala. We’ve concluded that it simply wasn’t a standout look like you’d expect of her! The color was a little dull and the shape of the dress seemed to confine her body drastically.

27. Hit: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga stole the show at this year’s Met Gala where she had a total of four outfit changes during her stint on the red carpet! Our favorite was this magenta pink look that she first debuted in! It was the epitome of the theme with the dramatic train and bold color.

26. Miss: Karlie Kloss

We were quite let down by this look worn by Karlie Kloss at the 2019 Met Gala. The only exaggerated feature of this look was the black poof sleeves, which really just felt out of place and awkward attached onto a gold dress.

25. Hit: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked like an absolute goddess at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing a custom Oscar De La Renta gown. We absolutely love how glamorous this look feels with the combination of whimsical feathers and sleek sparkles.

24. Miss: Nicki Minaj

We were quite disappointed with Nicki Minaj’s look for this year’s Met Gala in all honesty. It felt more like an outdated prom dress than something extravagant for the Met Gala. The combination of the youthful baby pink color, cheap-looking satin, and tacky jewels really didn’t do it for her this year.

23. Hit: Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes stepped out wearing a dreamy purple gown for this year’s Met Gala that was designed by Zac Posen. The look featured dramatic 3D collar and layers of smokey purple tulle.

22. Miss: Ashley Graham

As much as we love and support Ashley Graham, we can’t say the same about her look for this year’s Met Gala. It didn’t seem to fit the theme of “camp” by being extravagant in any way, which was quite the letdown.

21. Hit: Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o wowed in this butterfly-inspired look at the 2019 Met Gala. She definitely hit the theme on the head and even rocked rainbow makeup for the cherry on the cake. It’s clear by this look that Nyong’o knows what she’s doing when it comes to fashion.

20. Miss: Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne definitely wasn’t a fan favorite at last night’s Met Gala. While we can appreciate the intricacy of the rainbow dress, the mess of fruit on her head was something we couldn’t understand, especially the egg hanging down into her hair!

19. Hit: Zendaya

Zendaya wore the Cinderella-inspired look of our childhood dreams at the Met Gala this year. The look featured an iridescent blue texture and puffed sleeves and she even wore a blonde wig and blue headband to really encapsulate the Princess look. Not to mention the fabulous fairy godfather she brought along with her!

18. Miss: Kris Jenner

Kris Jenner had an unfortunate fashion miss at this year’s Met Gala! From the blonde wig to the wrinkled jumpsuit to the silver wings, we simply couldn’t wrap our heads around this look and definitely had higher expectations.

17. Hit: Taylor Hill

Taylor Hill was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour at this year’s Met Gala. While this look wasn’t necessarily on theme, we can’t help but absolutely love the combination of this luxe silk dress with the airy feathered shawl.

16. Miss: Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan stepped out wearing quite the bizarre look at the Met Gala this year. Not only did this look not seem to follow the theme, but the colors clashed and the bows seemed to detract from her look rather than appear “camp” in a good way.

15. Hit: Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts wore the most epic pink dress to this year’s Met Gala! Typically something like this would be highly criticized on any other red carpet, but at the Met Gala, it was totally praised. We love how sweet and feminine this feels, especially with the roses laced throughout her hair.

14. Miss: Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez left us completely underwhelmed at this year’s Met Gala. A sparkling look like this is something we’ve seen a million times before on the red carpet regardless of whether it’s the Met Gala or not, which was quite disappointing. We also weren’t huge fans of the headpiece she wore.

13. Hit: Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber was an absolute beauty at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing a striking pink dress with an extremely low back. We love how sweet and soft this look was in the sea of bold Met Gala looks, especially with the girly black bow she wore in her ponytail.

12. Miss: Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning wore quite the bizarre look this year for the Met Gala, and we have to admit, we weren’t fans! The color of the sleeves seemed to clash with the color of the pants and the mess of colors around her neck was quite unnecessary.

11. Hit: Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid was dripping in jewels at this year’s Met Gala where she wore a striking black dress with cutouts. The real attraction with this look, however, is the multi-color jewel bracelets she wore trailing up her arms which were unique and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.

10. Miss: Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae totally puzzled us with her Met Gala look this year which consisted of multiple top hats, eyeballs and clashing colors. We can definitely give her credits, however, for this ensemble being a work of art, but it definitely wasn’t our favorite.

9. Hit: Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves was the ultimate Barbie at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing a neon pink leather ensemble. We really appreciate the extra touches of detail with this look like the blowdryer-shaped purse and blonde Barbie-inspired wig.

8. Miss: Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra is always anticipated to be one of the best-dressed stars at the Met Gala, which is why her look was quite the letdown this year. The dress itself was obviously quite intricate and well-designed, but it was some of the details that threw us off like the towering crown and the eccentric eye makeup.

7. Hit: Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner absolutely nailed her Met Gala look this year where she stepped out wearing a tangerine colored ensemble complete with a beaded dress and feathered detail along her back. This color was absolute perfection on her and totally unique in the sea of Met Gala looks for 2019!

6. Miss: Katy Perry

Katy Perry dressed up as a literal chandelier for this year’s Met Gala and we were totally shocked when she stepped out onto the red carpet. While we can definitely appreciate the design work involved with creating a look like this, we were also quite confused with where the concept stemmed from.

5. Hit: Celine Dion

Celine Dion stole the show at this year’s Met Gala where she stepped out wearing a golden, champagne number made of fringe and a dramatic headpiece to match. The look made heads turn to say the least and reminded us once again that Celine Dion will always be a true fashion queen.

4. Miss: Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow wore quite a disappointing look at this year’s Met Gala. While Paltrow is never one to wear anything too extravagant, this look was just way too simple to be on theme or impressive. It felt much better suited for the Academy Awards or Emmys, but even then, it’s still quite plain!

3. Hit: Candice Swanepoel

Candice Swanepoel totally stunned at the 2019 Met Gala where she stepped out in this sparkling pale blue gown which featured a dramatic billowing train. To make this look even more impressive, Swanepoel styled her hair to mimic the shape of a tiara, which added something totally unique and funky to her look.

2. Miss: Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid wore sadly one of the most disappointing looks from this year’s Met Gala! Gigi blew us away with her butterfly-inspired ensemble last year, which is why it was all the more disappointing to see her step out almost unrecognizable in this bizarre white and gold look.

1. Hit: Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner was a total bombshell at this year’s Met Gala and we were blown away when she stepped out in this beautiful lilac creation! From the feathered sleeves to the violet wig, this look was everything we could have asked for and more.
