Oscars 2017: 10 Best Dressed Stars

Published on February 27, 2017.

On Sunday, February 26, the biggest names in Hollywood head to the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for the 89th Academy Awards. While the Oscars honor the best in the film industry, it is also widely recognized as one of Hollywood’s biggest nights for fashion and the stars did not disappoint! White and gold seemed to be color trends of the night, and red carpet fashion varied from simple and sleek to bold and daring resulting in some seriously gorgeous gowns. Not all of these ladies took home an award but they were definitely show-stoppers on the red carpet. Here are the 10 best dressed stars at the 2017 Oscars:

10. Ruth Negga

Ruth Negga was one of the first to hit the red carpet on the Oscars, and her red Valentino gown definitely turned heads. While Negga lost out to Emma Stone in the Best Lead Actress category, she was a winner on the red carpet with her deep red Valentino floor length gown which featured an accentuated lace high neck top and full sleeves. She completed the gorgeous look with rubies by Gemfields X Irene Neuwirth and dark makeup.

9. Emma Stone

Emma Stone has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most watched stars for fashion and her streak of style excellence continued at the Oscars last night. The Best Lead Actress winner donned a fringed Givenchy Haute Couture by Ricardo Tisci gown which was reminiscent of La La Land for old Hollywood film but also sleek and embellished with a modern feel. A lot of times this look would fall flat but on Emma it was perfection, and match perfectly with her lightly waved hair and Tiffany & Co. earrings.

8. Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay made head turns on the red carpet with her incredible Mohammed Ashi gown by Ashi Studio. The floor length grey gown featured a high neck and long sleeves but stood out thanks to the incredible embellishments across the skirt and covering the bodice. The unique gown was definitely a breath of fresh air from all the white and black plain gowns that covered the red carpet.

7. Priyanka Chopra

At this point it truly seems that Priyanka Chopra could wear a garbage bag and make it look amazing, but luckily the gorgeous Quantico star didn’t have to do that. Chopra chose a structured Ralph & Russo column dress which showed off her figure and featured a unique neckline. If she wasn’t dazzling enough she also added 60 carats worth of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds.

6. Nicole Kidman

At recent events, the stunning Nicole Kidman has lost her place on the best dressed list with some questionable styles, but she is back now with her gorgeous Armani Prive gown from the Oscars. The Best Supporting Actress nominee’s pale apricot gown accentuated Kidman’s height and featured unique arabesque embroidery making her look as statuesque as ever. She finished the look with Stuart Weitzman heels and Harry Winston jewelry.

5. Brie Larson

Brie Larson stepped out of the box with her black velvet Oscar de la Renta deep V gown and the risk paid off. Amid all the simple black dresses on the red carpet, Larson’s ruffled waist and skirt really stood out and also showed off her shape which is something the actress tends to stay away from. She topped off the whole look with perfect coral lips, a light updo, and Neil Lane gems.

4. Hailee Steinfeld

While white may have been common the red carpet, Hailee Steinfeld stood out in her white and pale lavender hued Ralph & Russo gown. The dainty embellishments which included a ruffle neckline and watercolor floral print with light metallic details created a fun yet mature Oscars look on the young star. Not to mention, her pulled back hair and perfect makeup made her look absolutely jaw-dropping.

3. Viola Davis

Viola Davis has been one of the best on the Oscars red carpets for years now, and she most definitely did not disappoint this year. While she went on to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences, she was already a winner with her stunning Armani Prive gown. The gown featured a halter neckline, draped caplet, and sleek style showing off Davis’ great figure. Most importantly the gown provided a pop of color on a red carpet otherwise largely dominated by white, black, and nude dresses.

2. Auli’i Cravalho

It may have been Auli’i Cravalho’s first Oscars red carpet but she looked like a seasoned pro in her hand-beaded Rubin Singer gown. The Moana star was absolutely stunning in the strapless white and silver dress which honored her hit Disney film with its palm-motif embroidery. She kept her hair loose and wavy and completed the look with Maxior and Harry Kotlar jewelry and a matching Jimmy Choo clutch.

1. Taraji P. Henson

It is not hard to see why Hidden Figures star Taraji P. Henson is topping most best dressed lists from the night. The gorgeous actress opted for an all black gown, but it was anything but simple or boring. Henson gave an old Hollywood vibe in her midnight velvet off-the-shoulder gown by Alberta Ferretti. She accessorized with a gorgeous Nirav Modi collar necklace and Jimmy Choo heels which completed her elegant yet sexy and glamorous Oscars look.
