Oscars 2017: 10 Worst Dressed Stars

Not only are the Oscars the biggest night in film, they are arguably one of the biggest fashion events of the year! There’s a lot of pressure on celebrities to not only to win an award, but also to flaunt their most impressive look as they walk the red carpet and showcase some of their most daring fashion choices. A small risk in style can either land them on the coveted best dressed list, or lump them in with the worst dressed stars. While there were many stars who blew us away with their exquisite beauty and gowns, there were also many stars who failed to impress. Here’s a look at 10 of the worst dressed stars from last nights 89th Academy Awards show!

10. Scarlett Johansson

We can see that Scarlett Johansson was going for a bit of an edgier look at the Oscars this time, but we’re not quite sure it worked. If any woman can pull off an edgy look, it’s Johansson, but pairing the dainty pink printed Alaia gown with a spiked belt around its sheer skirt wasn’t the right choice. The Ghost in the Shell actress came off looking a little too mismatched. She then topped the look off with cuffed jewelry by Fred Leighton and swept her short hair back into a tidal wave curl.

9. Jessica Biel

It pains us to say anything negative about Jessica Biel, but her look last night wasn’t our favorite. Luckily, the chemistry between her and husband, Justin Timberlake on the red carpet was so cute, we didn’t even notice that gold ensemble she was wearing. Looking back now though, her Kaufman Franco dress looked worn and patchy. The over-sized gold fringed collar necklace blended in too much with the dress. It’s important to match, but gold on gold was way too much. Many people thought she looked like the little gold Oscar statue himself!

8. Felicity Jones

Felicity Jones is such a natural beauty, she doesn’t have to do much to make herself look stunning. However, last night on the red carpet the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actress took it a little too far by not doing anything at all. She chose a nearly white Dior gown that washed out her complexion completely. She wore no jewelry and her make-up was extremely minimal, so she had no defining features to make her stand out. She was nearly invisible! Luckily, her dark hair pulled back in a loose half up-do offered up some contrast otherwise we might have missed her entirely!

7. Michelle Williams

Similar to Felicity Jones, Michelle Williams went for an extremely bland look. Styled by Kate Young, Williams stepped out in a Louis Vutton gown that featured a plunging neckline with a black halter top, and a white embellished skirt. Despite it being a big night for her as she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Manchester by the Sea, she lacked any kind of enthusiasm on the red carpet. Williams is typically known for having a strong sense of fashion, so we were surprised to see her in such a dull outfit with no jewelry. While her light make-up complimented the dress well, her nearly white-blonde hair and pale complexion requires a bit more effort.

6. Leslie Mann

The hilarious How to Be Single actress, Leslie Mann doesn’t need an impressive gown to make her stand out on the red carpet. Her infectious smile and charming personality take care of that, but last night she went for a bold look by wearing a large billowing, mustard-yellow colored Zac Posen gown that absolutely overwhelmed the petite actress. The dress looked like a sad rendition of Belle’s iconic gown from Beauty and the Beast as the color fell flat and the bottom puffed out like a duvet.

5. Sofia Boutella

Feathers on a dress is a risky choice and on Sofia Boutella’s Oscar dress, the risk outweighed the reward. Instead of looking glitzy and glamorous, the material on her dress looked tacky. To make matters worse, the dress is totally imbalanced. It reminded us of a feather duster. The texture changes abruptly from sequins to white fluffy feathers. A drop-waist design might have been a better design, but the textures together aren’t our favorite either. The dress itself was clearly the main attraction as she wore next to no jewelry and her hair was down, but swept over one shoulder.

4. Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron is normally on the best dressed list, but last night she failed to impress us with her Dior gown. The shape of her dress didn’t do anything for her lean figure and the metallic-like material was way too shiny with an awful green-gold color scheme that did not compliment each other well. Charlize Theron can typically wear anything and look flawless…just not this dress.

3. Olivia Culpo

We wanted to love Olivia Culpo’s Marchesa dress so badly, but sadly it failed to impress us. The shape of her dress is nice and slim, but the hanging fringe makes it look flat. The fringe is distracting away from her figure, so she tied a dainty black bow around her waist, but it looked out of place. To top it all off, her hair was pulled back in a simple updo which would have been fine, but the sweeping bangs across her forehead came off looking stringy and greasy.

2. Blanca Blanco

There was a lot going on with Blanca Blanco’s dress last night, so it’s hard to know where to start. A bold color is never a bad choice at the Oscars because the stars want to stand out as much as possible, but her over-sized puffy sleeves and dangerously high slit was a little too daring. To make matters worse, Blanca suffered a major wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet when her dress revealed a little too much in front of photographers. Not exactly classy. Didn’t she learn anything from Chrissy Teigen at the 2016 American Music Awards?!

1. Dakota Johnson

The 50 Shades of Grey star easily lands in the top worst dressed spot after walking the red carpet in that frumpy, atrocious gold Gucci dress last night. Even an amazing designer like Gucci makes mistakes sometimes, and this dress was one of them. Dakota Johnson looked like she belonged in a whole different era while wearing this overly conservative dress. She was covered head to toe in an awful satin champagne-gold material. The dress was topped off with an enormous bow and given a wrinkled hem which left it feeling even more outdated.
