Oscars 2018: 12 Most Disappointing Looks

Published on March 5, 2018.

This year’s Academy Awards red carpet most definitely had a handful of standout dresses — whether it be for the better or for the worst! Some of the looks, however, left us feeling more disappointed than anything! The disappointing looks come from stars that typically step out looking like head to toe perfection, but for whatever reason, didn’t seem to quite hit the mark this time around! Follow along for a recap of 12 of the most disappointing looks from our leading Hollywood fashionistas at the 2018 Oscars:

12. Sofia Carson

Disney star Sofia Carson stepped out wearing a caped red number on last night’s red carpet. We can definitely support a powerful red dress, but this look simply seemed to drown the petite star. We love when red carpet newbies hit the awards show in a standout style but unfortunately, Carson simply blended into the background (quite literally) and left us feeling quite disappointed.

11. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is typically quite elegant and sophisticated when it comes to red carpet fashion, but this Haute Couture Dior number was a little underwhelming! The silver look was quite similar to a couple of the other metallic numbers on the red carpet and Lawrence most definitely did not stand out when thrown into the mix.

10. Gal Gadot

Although Gal Gadot looked undeniably beautiful in this silver Givenchy gown, we couldn’t help but feel quite disappointed with her dress selection for one particular reason. Gadot wore something remarkably similar to the Critics’ Choice awards this past January. The look is definitely a show stopper, but we simply wish she had tried something new rather than reverting back to a style she’s already exhausted.

9. Abbie Cornish

Champagne-colored shimmering gowns were a huge trend on this year’s Oscar’s red carpet! A go-to style like this could seemingly do no wrong, but unfortunately Abbie Cornish proved us wrong. Among all the other glittering nude gowns, Cornish’s did not stand out in the slightest and the cap-sleeve detailing seemed a little over the top when there was already so much glitter and embellishment happening.

8. Maya Rudolph

Maya Rudolph had by far one of the most disappointing looks of the evening! The look had absolutely no shape and seemed like a little too much coverage between the oversized sleeves and the turtleneck neckline. Aside from this, her sleek hair did not pair well with the overwhelming size of the dress which further added to our disappointment.

7. Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan has had quite a few killer fashion moments in the past few months, which is why we were so let down when she stepped out in this innocent powder pink number. The look just seemed overly simplistic and risk-free for someone as fashion-forward as Ronan! Not too mention the ankle-length cut was quite unflattering, especially when contrasted with the oversized ruffles along the back of the gown.

6. Haley Bennett

Blonde beauty Haley Bennett stepped out wearing this strange feathered frock at last night’s Oscar’s! We were particularly disappointed because the textured number seemed to add volume to all the wrong places on the petite star. Bennett is so naturally gorgeous we simply had higher expectations for her Oscars look this year.

5. Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek is one of the most fashionable women in Hollywood, which is why we were so confused by the purple sparkly look she opted for this year! The look had tiers, cheap looking-sequins and a strange layered neckline made of diamonds that came across quite stifling and uncomfortable looking.

4. Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt undeniably missed the mark with this powder blue number on the Oscars red carpet. The chiffon dress featured an outdated looking high-neckline and cap sleeve detailing. This look seemed to age Blunt and was a little too matronly, especially with the doily-looking lace embellishment.

3. Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie has proven to be one of the most elegant and stylish Hollywood fashionistas, which is why this dress was quite underwhelming for us! The simple white look hugged her body well and was in all honesty quite sophisticated, but we had a huge problem with the holiday tinsel-inspired embellishment hanging across the neckline.

2. Zendaya

Zendaya is another one of Hollywood’s most fashionable women at the moment, but this asymmetrical garment did nothing for her! The chocolate brown color did not flatter her complexion and the entire gown seemed to be a little too oversized to flatter her slender frame. Zendaya has such an enviable figure that we wish she had opted for something more slim and chic!

1. Emma Stone

Of all the looks from this year’s Oscars, we were by far the most let down by Emma Stone’s outfit! Stone made a huge impression at last year’s Oscar red carpet with her gold column-style dress, which is why we had quite big expectations for her this year. The red and pink blazer combo seemed quite casual and the colors clashed. There was also too much silk happening at once and we wish she would have mixed up the textures.
