12. Exercise your face

Before her Duchess title, Meghan Markle dished that she often practiced facial exercises to make her face appear more chiseled and slim. “I do facial exercises from one of my favorite aestheticians, Nicola Joss, who basically has you sculpt your face from the inside out,” Markle told Birchbox in 2014. “I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are waaaay more sculpted.”

11. Always wear nude tights

One of the Queen’s most strict dress code rules is for all royal women to wear nude tights. Although Meghan Markle didn’t seem to abide by this tradition at first, now that she’s an official royal she has been spotted wearing nude, “barely there” tights on more than one occasion. Nude tights may seem like a somewhat outdated tradition in 2018, but after seeing how flawless and smooth these ladies’ legs look, we may have to jump back on this practice too!

10. Control flyaways with a toothbrush

Royal protocol requires for hair to stay neatly in place and styled professionally, but sometimes this can be difficult with long days and unpredictable weather! Luckily, Meghan has dished her secret to polished hair and it only requires one common household item — a toothbrush. “For my flyaways, I spray hairspray on a small boar bristle toothbrush (a regular toothbrush also works great!) to lightly brush them down or smooth the hairline. This is especially good for a sleek bun,” she shared with Birchbox in 2014.

9. Use a hairnet for a perfect bun

Another common royal hack to achieving refined, polished hairstyles is to use a hairnet! This is another tradition that seems a little outdated, but the royals perfectly styled updos prove the hairnet is still relevant. These ladies opt for an invisible hairnet that is hardly recognizable yet works wonders at holding an updo in place for long days of public appearances and engagements.

8. Keep tea tree oil on hand

Just like us, the Royal Family also loves a good natural beauty hack or two, especially the California-native Meghan Markle! She dished that she always keeps a bottle of tea tree oil on hand, especially when she’s traveling, for its multi-purpose healing properties. ‘It’s not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a small breakout, no matter what it is, it’s my little cure-all,” Markle shared. “It’s inexpensive, it’s small enough to carry on, and I bring it with me all the time.”

7. Wear non-slip tights

We can’t help but wonder how the royals rarely stumble when wearing sky-high stilettos, however, The Sun has reportedly uncovered Kate Middleton’s secret! “The expectant Duchess of Cambridge, 36, was recently pictured with sticky pads inside her shoes, which help to secure her inside her heels – genius!” they reported.

6. Use static to avoid your dress flying up

After a few mishaps in her early days as a Royal, it seems that Kate Middleton has mastered the trick of keeping down a skirt on a windy day and has taught it to Meghan Markle! “Often they wear body suits and clothes that actually increase static so it’s much [too] hard for something to fly up,” The Sun reported of their fashion hack.

5. Use weights in your skirt

Queen Elizabeth takes the possibility of her skirt catching the breeze even more seriously than the Duchesses! Allegedly the Queen has circular lead curtain weights sewn into her dresses and skirts to keep them weighed down in case of an unexpected gust of wind. “I just pop a couple of weights into the hemline of her dresses and coats and it makes them hang beautifully. If there is a flap in the coat then I will sew in one on each side of the split to even it up,” her favorite couturier Stewart Parvin dished.

4. Keep rosehip oil on hand

Markle isn’t the only royal who keeps natural remedies on hand! Allegedly Kate Middleton is a huge fan of rosehip oil and uses it regularly in her skincare routine. “Kate continues to use rosehip oil in her daily skincare regiment,” a source close to the Duchess shared with Us Weekly. “She loves the effect it has on her skin. [Her mother] Carole [Middleton] is also a fan.”

3. Wear shoes one size too big

One of the most revelatory royal hacks is one straight from Meghan Markle’s shoe closet! Many have wondered why the Duchess consistently steps out wearing shoes that appear too big, but reportedly, this is intentional. “Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to—to avoid blisters,” The Sun shared“There’s nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we’ve all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up.”

2. Wear an elastic to hold hats in place

We can’t help but wonder how the royals keep their extravagant hats and fascinators in place! Typically they’re quite oversized and sit at strange angles on the head yet still remain unbudged throughout the day. Reportedly, the royal ladies have a hack they use to accomplish this — an elastic! “Preferably the elastic should be the same color as the wearer’s hair and is worn under the hair at the back, resting below the bump on the back of the head,” American milliner Jill Courtemanche shared with the website Royal Hats.

1. Always carry a clutch

A common fashion hack used frequently among the royal ladies is to opt for a clutch rather than a small handbag or tote. This way, they are able to avoid unwanted physical contact and handshaking in the most polite way possible. Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton have practiced this convention for years, and now we’re slowly seeing the Duchess of Sussex following suit.
