2018 was a huge year when it came to red carpet fashion and street style. We saw quite a few experimental looks in 2018, but some of which were risks that weren’t well rewarded! There were many stars, from the Royals to Hollywood A-listers, that left us disappointed this year with some of their more anticipated looks. These moments are often from stars that are consistently well-dressed, and then step out wearing something questionable that is far less exciting than expected. Follow along as we recall a few of the most disappointing fashion moments of 2018:
15. Tyra Banks at AMA’s
Tyra Banks is quite hit or miss when it comes to fashion, but her look for this year’s AMAs was quite disappointing. Her style is completely unpredictable, which is half the fun in seeing what she’ll step out wearing next. While we can appreciate a little fringe every once in a while, we’re not sure the trend is working with this hot pink mini skirt she wore at the 2018 AMAs, especially when paired with a casual and unnecessary baker boy hat.

14. Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace
Many dubbed this powder blue Alexander McQueen worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in October one of her worst looks of all time! While we believe the criticism is definitely quite harsh, we do see where they’re coming from. The crinkled texture of the dress looked like something straight out of an ’80s fashion magazine and we would have much preferred to see Kate in something more modern like satin or velvet.

13. Kesha at Governors Awards
Kesha’s look for this year’s 2018 Governors Awards was highly disappointing in all honesty! It seemed as if Kesha was rerouting her fashion towards a more sophisticated approach based on changes in the last year, but this look proved otherwise. The look reminded us of something hanging on the racks of a children’s store with the pink feathers and rainbow sparkles. If Kesha wanted to do sparkles, we would have much preferred if she opted for a neutral, more modest color.

12. Meghan Markle in New Zealand
Meghan Markle turned quite a few heads in one of her last appearances of the Royal tour through New Zealand where she wore a royal blue sweater and skirt combo. While we love the pleated midi skirt and the contrasting pops of light blue, we’re not sure that Markle realized the skirt was completely sheer in the daylight! The look bared all from the waist down and we’re quite certain the Queen would have been shocked and disappointed to see Meghan wearing something so revealing.

11. Sarah Jessica Parker at Golden Globes
Sarah Jessica Parker will likely always have high expectations when it comes to red carpet style after playing the ever-fabulous Carrie Bradshaw for years. This, however, can be both a blessing and a curse, and in the case of her Golden Globes look this year, it was the latter. The star opted for a corset gown with strange mesh along the bodice, sleeves, and skirt. To make matters worse, the gown cut awkwardly at her ankles which simply made her look frumpy. We would have much preferred a gown with a little more fabric to reach the floor and a little less embellishment!

10. Kate Middleton in Sweden
One of Kate’s most criticized and disappointing looks of the year was this satin mustard-colored dress she wore in January. The look had quite a bit going on from the statement-making color scheme, high-neckline, long sleeves, satin texture and ruffle detailing. With the combination of the heavy material and print, we simply think this look seemed to distract from Kate’s natural beauty rather than complement it.

9. Salma Hayek at Oscars
Brunette beauty Salma Hayek typically lands on every best-dressed list when it comes to red carpet season, but we have to admit that this look from the 2018 Oscars had quite the opposite effect. The typically polished Hayek stepped onto the red carpet wearing a purple sparkly number with unflattering tiers along the skirt and strange neckline embellishment. It’s always disappointing when a highly-anticipated outfit falls flat, and we have to admit that’s how we felt after seeing Hayek’s 2018 Oscar attire.

8. Kate Bosworth at Critics’ Choice
Kate Bosworth is a typical red carpet all-star, but her look from the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards was definitely not one of her best and left us feeling quite disappointed. The lace garment featured a billowing hip detailing that was layered, puffy and overall quite awkward. The remainder of the dress featured a sheer skirt and sleeves but, despite this, the whole look seemed somewhat doily-like and overly covered up.

7. Margot Robbie at Critics’ Choice
Margot Robbie’s look from the 2018 Critics’ Choice awards was quite questionable and, ultimately, disappointing! We’re all for mixing prints and textures, but the stripes and colorful bejeweled belt simply clashed rather than looking like strategic matching. The cut did nothing for her shape and the strange ruffles around the neckline and waist were quite risky. Luckily, Robbie held an award in hand and seemed happier than ever, so her dress choice didn’t seem to matter as much.

6. Gigi Hadid at CFDA’s
Gigi Hadid has been fashion’s it-girl for the past few years, which made her appearance at the 2018 CFDA awards one of the most anticipated. Her Met Gala moment this year was seriously incredible, but we, unfortunately, can’t say the same for her look for this year’s CFDA Awards. The multi-color, skintight jumpsuit was chaotic and bizarre, which was a rare fashion misstep for the ultra stylish model.

5. Amy Adams at Governors Awards
Amy Adams stepped out wearing a blush pink, long sleeve dress for this year’s Governors Awards that definitely puzzled us. While we love this soft color against Adams’ porcelain complexion and red hair, the strange sparkly heart detail on the bodice seemed out of place and juvenile. This look left us disappointed simply because the dress distracted from Adams’ natural beauty rather than enhancing it.

4. Madelaine Petsch at Teen Choice Awards
Riverdale teen star Madelaine Petsch is such a natural beauty with her lush red tresses and pouty lips, but we can’t say the same for her sense of fashion. Her look for the 2018 Teen Choice Awards consisted of a white floral set that in itself isn’t too bad, but the black lace detailing made the look come across tacky. We love matching sets, but this one just didn’t do her beauty justice!

3. Allison Janney at BAFTA’s
Allison Janney stunned in early 2018 at the Critics’ Choice Awards when she stepped out in a shimmering cobalt number, which is why our expectations were high for the awards show red carpets to follow. Unfortunately, Janney left us quite disappointed at the BAFTAs where she donned this completely strange silver and black number. The metallic look was definitely quite avant-garde and risky, but it lacked the simplistic elegance and sophistication of a winning red carpet fashion moment.
14
2. Nicole Kidman at Critics’ Choice
Nicole Kidman is a Hollywood starlet who was consistently best-dressed for many years, but unfortunately, quite a few of her looks in 2018 let us down! Kidman commented on her 2017 Golden Globes look that many people disliked and claimed she allowed her daughters to pick the outfit which might have been the case with this fairy pink frothy look for the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards as well! The color seemed quite juvenile and the ruffles along the skirt and sequins throughout made the look clash even more.

1. Kate Hudson at SAG Awards
Kate Hudson undeniably led the worst-dressed list for the 2018 SAG Awards this year! The overly feminine gown featured heart-shaped polka dots, a strange turtle-neckline covered in lace and tacky ruffles trailing throughout. The look was a clear fashion miss on the typically elegant fashionista, which is why we were all the more disappointed.
