Published on July 16, 2018.The royal family have been avid fans and attendees of the Wimbledon tennis championships for years. We’ve seen Prince William grow up from attending the matches with his mother Lady Diana to now attending with wife Kate Middleton. Over the years it’s become expected that a few royals will be spotted in the stands during the matches and it’s always interesting to see their choices of attire for the casual sporting event. With the event happening again this summer, take a trip down memory lane with us and check out a few of our all-time favorite Royal Wimbledon outfits:
14. Wimbledon 2018 — Duchess Catherine
The Duchess of Cambridge is one of the most anticipated attendees at Wimbledon! However, due to the recent birth and christening of her third son Louis, many questioned whether the Duchess would be making an appearance this year. Luckily she did not disappoint and attended this past weekend wearing a chic and summery white printed dress. We love the wrap detailing along the waist and feminine frills around her shoulders.

Meghan Markle has seemed to up her game when it comes to Wimbledon style! She followed close behind her sister-in-law for the 2018 Wimbledon games wearing a polished striped button-up and white crepe trousers. Last year, Meghan took a much more casual approach to her summer dressing and opted to wear her hair down in tousled waves and a black cotton dress to Wimbledon. We love that she took a more polished and professional approach to her fashion for this year’s Wimbledon appearance!

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is a tennis superfan and has been made quite an appearance in the courtside Royal Box for seven consecutive years now. Her outfits for the matches tend to feature summery textures and prints, with this turquoise and olive dress she wore in 2014 being a perfect example of that.

Chic printed dresses seem to be Kate Middleton’s style secret weapon when it comes to Wimbledon attire! She stepped out in 2017 wearing this sophisticated polka dotted number that was the perfect balance of modesty and playfulness. We love how the polka dots being monochrome makes it feel mature and polished, yet still perfectly suited for a casual summer afternoon.

Perhaps Kate Middleton channeled her polka dot Wimbledon outfit after her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana! In the summer of 1993, Diana attended the tennis championship wearing a silky polka-dot button top which she belted and paired with a matching pencil skirt. The peachy pink shade was the perfect option for a warm summer afternoon in the stands!

Kate Middleton has previously shared that Wimbledon holds a special place in her heart because it was a big tradition for her family growing up and a “quintessential part of English summer.” With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that Kate has been spotted in the stands beside sister Pippa and mother Carole on multiple occasions! In 2012, Pippa and Kate were spotted in the stands looking as chic and polished as ever. While Pippa opted for a soft blue printed dress, Kate opted for a cream skirt and blazer combo.

Similar to Kate Middleton’s family traditions, it’s clear that Prince William also grew up with Wimbledon being a family summer tradition. In the summer of 1991, William was spotted courtside with his mother Lady Diana. His ever-stylish mother donned an eccentric purple top which she belted at the waist and paired with a pleated white skirt.

One of our absolute favorite looks that the Duchess of Cambridge has worn to Wimbledon is this chic yellow dress! This occasion wasn’t the first time the Duchess has spotted wearing this brightly colored number and the fashion moment was actually a repeat from 2014. We love that Kate isn’t afraid to wear an outfit twice, especially when it’s as eye-catching and striking as this summery yellow look!
