The Conners are back (almost)!
After announcing back in late June that ABC had given the greenlight to a Roseanne spinoff following the abrupt cancellation of the Roseanne revival, the network has been tight-lipped about the project dubbed The Conners.
With a premiere date set for October 16, 2018, it is time for the cast and crew to assemble for the show and the first photo looks familiar, but of course with one major absence. The only way ABC would continue on with The Conners was without Roseanne Barr following her racist tweet, and the first photo shows just that.
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne,” the 65-year-old actress said in a statement.“I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”
Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Jayden Rey (Mary), Michael Fishman (D.J.), Ames Mcnamara (Mark), John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Emma Kenney (Harris) sit together, looking very family-like, in the first pic as they gather around the kitchen table.
Barr agreed to relinquish all her rights to the show and to not have any involvement or be financially compensated for the spinoff from her show, and while there has been no confirmation how the series will handle the absence of the Conners’ matriarch, it is expected her character will have been killed off.
John Goodman seemed to have let the news slip when he said, “I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead,” in a new interview when discussing his character Dan in The Conners.
