Dancing With the Stars fans had a slow spring when the beloved ABC series didn’t have a spring season for the first time in over 20 seasons, but now the series is preparing to return in the fall and now we are only days away before finding out the full cast!
On Wednesday, August 14, the official Dancing With the Stars Instagram page, wrote, “The new cast of #DWTS is ready to bring the fun! Don’t miss @goodmorningamerica next Wednesday when we reveal our STARS!” Meanwhile the Good Morning America account revealed that the full cast will be announced on the show on Wednesday, August 21, by none other than longtime DWTS host Tom Bergeron! “DANCING IS BACK Season 28 of @DancingABC is here and we’re revealing all the new stars and the new cast LIVE on @GMANEXT WEDNESDAY! Who’s ready?! #DWTS #DancingOnGMA” the account shared alongside a teaser trailer.
Earlier in the year ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke revealed that season 28 did not air in the spring because they were working on “some really fun” format changes for the upcoming season that will “surprise and delight the audiences in new ways,” while maintaining “the same show that everyone knows and loves.”
Burke explained further at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour that the changes are more “format tweaks” vs. format changes,” adding, “It’s about [shifting] the focus of the show to really focus on it being a celebration of dance, and also focusing on the celebrities.”
Season 28 is also one of the first seasons in years where the celebrity cast hasn’t been leaked or at least some of the stars hadn’t been revealed ahead of the Good Morning America reveal and it might be because it might be one of the most famous casts the show has seen. Burke teased the celebrity lineup is “really good,” adding, “Resting the show does help us really, really focus on talent and … help us go after talent. We’re going after bigger stars than we have in a long time.”
Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars premieres Monday, Sept. 16 at 8/7c on ABC
