32-year old actress, Misty Upham, best known for her roles in the films August: Osage County and Django Unchained has been missing since October 6 and now the search has come to a tragic end.
A body was found at the bottom of an embankment near the White River in Auburn, Washington and the actress’s father, Charles Upham, has confirmed her identity to authorities.
After Upham had been missing and not been in contact for a significant amount of time, her uncle organized a search party and are apparently upset with the local police force for not responding to the family’s concerns appropriately.
According to a statement from Tracy Rector, a friend of the family, “They [the police] refused to help. When she disappeared on Oct. 5, the family knew something was seriously wrong- it was out of character for her to be gone so long without being in touch- and they repeatedly went to the police, who insisted there was no cause for concern.”
The family has spoken out about Misty’s battle with mental illness, specifically bipolar disorder and think that a change in medication had her battling depression and suicidal thoughts. According to reports, the police have responded to four suicide calls at her apartment over the past year.
A cause of death has not yet been determined, however the family still firmly believes she did not commit suicide, “The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not believe that Misty Upham committed suicide,” Rector commented.
