Amy Schumer Is “Heart Broken” After ‘Trainwreck’ Movie Theatre Shooting

On Thursday, July 23, almost exactly three after the tragic Aurora, Colorado, movie theatre shooting during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises, another tragedy occurred, this time during a showing of the Amy Schumer led film Trainwreck.

A 58-year-old man walked into a crowded theatre in Layfette, Louisiana, and opened fired on the crowd, killing two and injuring nine more before turning the gun on himself.

Following the tragedy, Schumer, who has been nothing but highly praised for the film which she wrote and starred in, took to her Twitter to address the horrible incident. “My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Lousiana,” she wrote.

The American Film Institute also offered a statement, urging people to stand together: “Going to a summer movie is a celebration of American creative spirit and one of our nation’s most beloved pastimes. Let us stand together in these times of tragedy and embrace what is precious to us – churches, schools, and places where the arts can send our spirits soaring. As a national community of artists and audiences, AFI offers our heartfelt sympathies to the victims in Louisiana and their families.”

Other celebrities also took to their Twitter commenting on the shooting, including Patton Oswalt, Sam Smith and Kevin Smith who wrote, “Terrible news out of LAYFAYETTE: gunman opens fire in movie theater. 2 people died because they wanted to see a movie.”
