Despite his immense popularity, Ashton Kutcher very rarely opens up about his personal life, but that changed when he sat down with fellow actor Dax Shepherd for an episode of Shepherd’s podcast Armchair Expert.
Kutcher opened up about his split from Demi Moore back in 2013 and revealed some surprising details about he handled their divorce, admitting he went off into the woods with nothing but a notebook, some teabags, and water.
“I went into Big Sky in Montana, and I did no food, no drink — just water and tea,” he said, adding that he not only had no food, he went completely off the grid. “I took all my computers away, my phone, my everything,” he explained. “I was there by myself so there was no talking, and I just had a notepad and a pen and water and tea for a week.”
Kutcher then revealed that by day two some weird things started to happen. “I started to hallucinate on like day 2 which was fantastic,” he said. “It was pretty wonderful. I was doing tai chi with my own energy.” When Shepherd asked if he had previous martial arts training, The Ranch actor replied, “No, I was just doing what came to me.”
He added, that he used the time to not only focus on himself but try to right some wrongs as well. “I wrote down every single relationship that I had where I felt like there was some grudge or some anything, regret, anything. And I wrote letters to every single person, and on day seven, I typed them all out and then sent them,” he explained. “It was almost like an A.A. exercise, where I was like, ‘I probably have done some damage,’ so I just cleared [my] palate.”
After marrying in 2005, Kutcher and Moore were wed for six years before they separated in 2011 and finalized their divorce nearly two years later in 2013.
Kutcher went on to marry Mila Kunis in 2015. They have two children together — a daughter named Wyatt Isabelle, 3, and a 1-year-old son Dimitri Portwood.
