For quite awhile Ben Affleck was able to lay low as the media frenzy swirled around his split from wife Jennifer Garner which was quickly followed by a barrage of rumors that Affleck had been sleeping with his children’s former nanny.

Now, both Garner and Affleck are speaking out as Affleck is hot on the promotion tour for his newest film Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. After speaking to the New York Times about Garner’s surprisingly candid Vanity Fair interview, Affleck sat down with Ellen on Wednesday, March 16, reiterating that he and his ex are still very good friends for the sake of their three children.

Although he looked exhausted and not exactly eager to discuss his personal life, he responded after Ellen said that, “I know it’s been kind of a challenging year, obviously. And what I love – and I think what everybody loves- is that you and Jen are putting the kids first, and that we see you with the kids all the time.” The 43-year-old actor replied, “Absolutely. You know, we’re good friends, and we’re doing our best and our kids are fabulous and we’re working our best for them.”

He then got animated talking about taking on the role of Batman, which his 4-year-old son, Samuel absolutely loved. “I haven’t done anything that my kids can see for a long time, so I thought that would be kind of cool. My son thinks it’s really cool. He came to the set, he saw me, he was a little bit suspicious. He was like, ‘Is that the real Superman?” referring to Affleck’s co-star Henry Cavill as Superman. “He’s 4 so to him that’s the real Superman. When I leave, he’s like, ‘Dad, are you going to the batcave?’ So I’m like, ‘Yes I am.’ I know eventually he’s going to be in therapy like, ‘He lied to me! There is no Batcave, he’s doing Ellen!”
