Ben Higgins took to Instagram on Tuesday May 30 to confront negative comments following his breakup from fiancee Lauren Bushnell.

Much of the hate focused on Higgin’s new business partnership with former Bachelor contestant, Ashley Iaconetti. The two decided to work alongside each other on an iHeart podcast called Ben and Ashley: Almost Famous. The timing of the project attracted critics to question Ben’s character after just announcing his split from Lauren on May 15.

Ben directly addressed the subject in his Instagram post by stating, “I cannot focus on the negative comments or indecently hateful words being said about me or my relationship even though they do sting.” He continues to state, “The last few months have not gone the way I would have preferred. My relationships have changed drastically and what I envisioned my life was going to be has been redirected. It is sad, but it is nothing you should feel sorry for me about, life happens both the good and bad.”

The podcast co-hosts have denied rumors of romance and have faced criticism for starting their business venture directly after Ben’s split from Lauren. He addressed the critics in his social media post by stating, “To be clear, not that this should be a surprise, but this podcast is a professional decision I have made to enhance my life and career. Because I was given the opportunity, I have added a podcast with a friend and a great company (@iheartradio) to talk about life (and I love to talk).”

The Bachelor star concluded his post by stating, “When a good opportunity comes your way that fits your desires take it, because life is short but a lot more fun when you are doing something you enjoy.”
