The superhero movie genre is getting yet another A-list actor to play a much anticipated part, this time it is Benedict Cumberbatch who will be taking on the role of Dr. Strange.

Cumberbatch’s name has been thrown around for the coveted role for a few months now, but Marvel finally confirmed they snagged the actor after talks with Joaquin Phoenix did not come through.

As well as Phoenix there were rumors that other elite actors were talked about for the role such as Jared Leto and Tom Hardy but that was obviously not true after it was confirmed they would play major roles in D.C. Comic’s 2016 film Suicide Squad.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character,” Producer Kevin Feige stated.

The film is scheduled to hit theatres in November 2016 with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay and Scott Derrickson directing the movie which “will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.”

Cumberbatch shot to stardom as Sherlock Holmes in a modernized version of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic. and he is also being heralded for his latest role in The Imitation Game as Alan Turing, a genius in WWII who cracked the Nazi’s “Engima Code.”
