Early on Tuesday, September 20 the news broke that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after two years of marriage and a total of 12 years together.

Now, Pitt has broken his silence in the wake of the shocking news. “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”

In the filing, Jolie, 41, cited the usual irreconcilable differences from Pitt, 52, but sources stated immediately that Jolie filed after serious disagreements about Pitt’s parenting methods of their six children, and put their date of separation as September 15.

The bombshell divorce news still has many reeling, and more and more reports of friction in the relationship have come forward, but it seems the issue was all around the kids as Jolie has asked for primary physical custody and requested that Pitt only get visitation, as she is quite adamant he does not have joint custody.

“The divorce is a complete shock. They have definitely spent more time apart this year, but it’s still a shock. They just celebrated their wedding anniversary together,” a source close to the famous pair said.
