Breaking: Jeannie Mai Hospitalized And Forced To Exit ‘Dancing With The Stars’

ABC

Jeannie Mai has announced that she has been hospitalized which has forced her to exit Dancing With the Stars early.

“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” the cohost said in a statement to Good Morning America on Monday, November 2. “I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come.”

Mai was diagnosed with epiglottis, which is a potentially life-threatening condition that causes swelling and blocks airflow to the lungs.

Monday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars was intended to be a double-elimination round, however, with the news of Mai and her pro partner Brandon Armstrong’s sudden departure, only one celebrity contestant will be sent home.

“Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery,” a spokesperson for DWTS said in a statement. “Since Jeannie had to withdraw from the competition, tonight’s show will feature the eight remaining couples and a single elimination.”

Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
