Bristol Palin, 24, former Dancing With the Stars contestant and the eldest daughter to Sarah Palin was all set to get married on Saturday, May 23 over the Memorial Day weekend to U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer, but then suddenly her mother announced the wedding had been canceled, only days before it was supposed to take place.

Sarah made the announcement on Facebook on May 18 but gave no definite reason for the sudden calling off of the nuptials, stating, “Trust in God’s timing. It’s better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart.”

Now, Bristol is breaking her silence after the drama, addressing “the elephant in the room” in a new blog post. “When I first got engaged, you were the first ones I wanted to tell,” she began.

“I guess you have seen by now that the wedding– that was supposed to happen last weekend– was called off. I’m sure you’ve seen this has been all over the media, but this is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers. I know God’s plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated. Thank you for all your love and support.”

This is the second failed attempt down the aisle for Bristol who was previously engaged to Levi Johnston, the father of her 6-year old son Tripp.
