Candace Cameron Bure has left Hallmark to sign a deal with GAC Family and GAC Living.
GAC Media announced on Tuesday morning that the Full House actress had signed a deal with them in which she will develop, executive produce and star in upcoming programming for their networks. She will also oversee and curate programming for the network.
A large part of her new role will be creating content for the company’s annual Great American Christmas franchise.
Many fans were surprised by Bure’s decision to part ways with Hallmark. The actress has starred in more than 20 movies for the network, hosted many holiday specials and led the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries series.
A spokesperson for Hallmark’s parent company, Crown Media, shared a statement with PEOPLE regarding Bure’s exit. “Crown Media has enjoyed over 10 years of collaboration with Candace,” the spokesperson shared. “We respect her decision and thank her for her many contributions.”
When asked about the Aurora Teagarden series, the spokesperson added, “We will air existing movies with no plans for new ones.”
Bure also addressed the career change in a statement. “I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” she began. “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose.”
“We share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family. Great, quality entertainment with a positive message is what my partnership with GAC is all about.”
