Chad Michael Murray Responds After Sophia Bush Says She Didn’t Really Want To Marry Him

For the most part, actress Sophia Bush is fiercely private, but even she couldn’t predict the firestorm that was going to come from her candid new interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show, Andy Cohen Live.

In the interview, Bush opened up for the first time about her own personal experiences of harassment from One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn while on set, and even touched on her very brief marriage to co-star Chad Michael Murray.

Back in 2005, Bush and Murray married in Santa Monica but separated only five months later, and when Cohen asked at what point in the show they were at when they got married, Bush responded, “How old was I? I don’t even know. It was like the second season. But everybody’s been 22 and stupid,” she added with a laugh.” She then added, “I don’t even know. And it was not a thing I actually really wanted to do.”

When Cohen pressed her about why she would get married if she didn’t want to, she hinted that she was the only one keeping Murray getting to set on time and having filming go smoothly. “Because how do you let everybody down? And how do you, what’s the fight? And when you have bosses telling you that you’re the only person who gets a person to work on time and 200 people either get to either see their kids at night or they don’t because our days start on time?”

It seems Murray, who is now married to actress Sarah Roemer with whom he shares two children, was not happy about Bush’s statements. In a statement, the actor’s rep said the “story is ludicrous,” and added, “Chad conducts himself in a completely professional manner and would never marry for any reason but love. Thirteen years since his divorce from Sophia, he has a very happy family life with his wife and children. He has completely moved on and doesn’t feel the need to engage in this type of behavior.”

Following the interview, after several media outlets had reported on Bush’s statements about not wanting to marry Murray and feeling pressured, the actress clarified on Twitter that she was not trying to offend Murray. “When you’re taking the piss out of yourself – b/c people can’t let the past go & you really wish they would – & gossip rags try to turn it into inappropriate drama rather than self-deprication. Don’t twist people’s words, y’all. If it wasn’t clear, I was making fun of MYSELF.” She continued, “And if all the years that have passed haven’t made it WILDLY clear that we’re all grown ups who’ve become the best versions of ourselves, then I just don’t know what to say. And PS, if my teasing MYSELF on the radio today — for my past — hurt anyone’s feelings, I am sorry.”
