Actor Channing Tatum is at a point in his life where he can do no wrong, every movie he does is well-received either because of the female fans flocking to see it or the talent he portrays.
He can’t help but gush about his beautiful family with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum and their new daughter Everly, but in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tatum explained the long road he took to get to where he is.
After the success of the male stripper film, Magic Mike, Tatum and the gang just finished filming for the sequel Magic Mike XXL, which is actually partially based on Tatum’s past as a stripper.
He recalled his dad asking him why he did it when he didn’t have to as his parents would have provided for him, “I told him it had nothing to do with him. That was my road. That was the road I had to take,” Tatum stated.
While on stage he was a male stripper, behind the curtain there was even more going on, including drug use.
“I wouldn’t say I was losing myself in drugs because I wasn’t doing anything habitually. Just experimenting. Experimenting, I would say. Never the big ones, crack or heroin. I never OD’d or anything. Never,” he explained of his encounters with drugs.
While the drugs didn’t consume him, he has frequently commented about his own drinking habits, “Drinking was probably the biggest [thing]. I didn’t look at drinking as a problem. It wasn’t at that point, and I still don’t think it’s a problem. But at that time in my life, it was, ‘Let’s go out and have a great time.'”
While speaking of his alcohol use, Tatum also addressed previous comments he made to GQ magazine where he described himself as a “high-functioning alcoholic.”
“It was something said that wasn’t meant to be factual. All I meant was that I do things in extreme,” he explained.
While he has gotten past all of that, his focus now is balancing his career and his family which is he is finding difficult but is not ruling out a sibling for baby Everly.
“I don’t think very, very soon, but it really depends if Jenna’s show gets picked up for a third season. Then we would probably wait,” Tatum speculated.
Well, those comments were made before Lifetime announced that Jenna’s show, Witches of East End would not be renewed, so maybe there will be another baby Dewan-Tatum soon.
