Chris Harrison Reveals Why Nick Viall Was Picked Over Luke Pell For The Bachelor

It is fairly safe to say that out of all the possibilities for season 21’s Bachelor, no one really saw ABC’s pick of Nick Viall coming. In fact, it seems that many Bachelor and Bachelorette fans were already convinced the next Bachelor would be Luke Pell and were very shocked y the selection of Viall; however, longtime host Chris Harrison says the pick “makes so much sense.”

It makes sense because Viall’s search for love has been going on for a longtime in Bachelor nation already. He ended up as the runner-up in both Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe’s seasons of The Bachelorette, and is currently on Bachelor in Paradise, and now it is no secret his relationship with Jen Saviano doesn’t work out.

“He has just become that perennial, second place guy who wants to find love and is as sincere, if not more sincere, than anybody about finding it,” Harrison said of ABC’s decision to choose 35-year-old Viall. “It’s about giving him his chance to find love. Who deserves it more than him?” Harrison’s biggest hope that Viall will finally find love is because his nemesis Josh Murray won’t be around. “The main reason it’ll work this time is Josh won’t be there. There are plenty of women out there that find him adorable and loveable and irresistible. I have no doubt that he will find the woman of his dreams.”

Harrison also vouched for Viall’s sincerity as many are wondering if he is just trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame by continuing to pop up on the series. “We have made a very, very good living – and have been extremely successful – out of leading the landscape and trying to please Bachelor Nation and give them what they want, but at the same time knowing well enough to know that we’re actually giving them what they need. At the end of the day, we had some really good, viable candidates, but Nick’s sincere.”

Harrison added of Viall: “So many names get thrown around and at the end of the day, as producers, we have to try and think and decide what’s best for the franchise and who is the most deserving and sincere person. At the end of the day, we all looked around the table and nobody could say it wasn’t Nick. You can’t shoot holes at the fact that he is just the most deserving and sincere person.”
