Chris Meloni has shared a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of his return to the role of Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU.
The first days of filming for the role kicked off this week and Meloni shared the first photos of his return on Instagram on Tuesday. This marks Meloni’s first time returning to the role in nearly a decade.
The first sneak peek photo is a close-up shot of his arm with Stabler’s iconic tattoo on it. “#firstdayofschool,” he wrote in the caption. In a second photo, Meloni shared a selfie with his daughter, Sophia, on the set of SVU. “Get to work with my girl- #BestDayEver,” he wrote.
Earlier this month, Mariska Hargitay, who plays Oliva Benson on SVU, teased Meloni’s return with a photo from a virtual table read for the show. “Well…that happened…,” Hargitay wrote on Instagram referencing Meloni’s return.
Meloni’s return to SVU on season 22 is intended to lead into the spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is set to debut in 2021. Production on the new series has been delayed, however, due to the current global health concerns and staff changes, which pushed its premiere to the spring.
