The 13-episode Law & Order: SVU spinoff drama is reportedly to revolve around Stabler leading an NYPD organized crime unit, meaning there appears to be plenty of potential for a Stabler-Benson reunion, given the show’s setting.

Meloni starred opposite Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson on SVU from season one to season 12, with his last episode being 2011’s “Smoked.” The actor then went on to appear in several roles across HBO’s True Blood, DC Comics film Man of Steel, Fox’s Surviving Jack, Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Syfy’s Happy!, and many more.

Law & Order: SVU is currently in its 21st season, and has written off Stabler as retiring from the force. Meanwhile, Hargitay’s Benson rose to the head of the entire division. The crime-drama show was renewed this year for three more seasons.

The Stabler spinoff show is still in the early stages of development with Wolf, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski serving as executive producers. Chicago P.D.‘s Matt Olmstead is being eyed to write and showrun the new spinoff series, according to Deadline‘s report.
