It looks like Dancing With the Stars can no longer sustain putting on two seasons a year, which has been common since the popular show’s premiere back in 2005.

According to multiple reports, the ABC series will be taking a hiatus in 2019 and will not be airing a season during its usual spring cycle meaning season 27 winner Bobby Bones and his pro partner Sharna Burgess will be holding on to the Mirrorball Trophy for a full year.

Despite the spring hiatus, Dancing With the Stars is expected to return with season 28 n the fall of 2019.

The news also comes after it was announced that longtime judge Carrie Ann Inaba would be starting a new role on CBS as the replacement for Julie Chen on The Talk. Although Inaba is taking on the big new role, she is scheduled to continue on with her judging duties on DWTS, but the spring hiatus will give her more time to adjust before having to balance both shows.

There have been two seasons of Dancing With the Stars per year since season two in 2006 but there was a slight delay in the spring of 2018 when instead of starting in March as per usual, season 26 began in April. It was later revealed the season was delayed because it was a shorter season and was specifically an athletes season.

As mentioned, country radio host Bobby Bones pulled off one of the most shocking and controversial Mirrorball wins in the show’s history when he and Sharna Burgess were crowned champions at the end of season 27.
